Drag Shows!!

Wareyin. This OP was about a website, DOKTX. I'm asking a bit about it, as it seems to be utterly flaccid. That has nothing to do with the larger drag protesting movement and attempts to stut them down. Do you understand that? I am pointing out that this OP site failed, and miserably. That is an actual on-topic discussion point. Your endless weak-ass floundering for a gotcha is ******* boring.

Thermal, how can you still fail to understand that this website is part of the larger drag protesting movement? This is that forest for the trees thing I alluded to twice in the post you quoted without reading.

I do understand this, and had you briefly removed your head from between your gluteals, you would already know this.

What I am doing, as I've said so many times now, is briefly asking about a point directly related to the actual OP. It's not the all-encompassing meta argument you so excitedly fantasize about.

If you actually understood that, you wouldn't insist on reviewing their acts in a vacuum as you are doing now.

You genuinely don't understand that you can briefly look at one element independently, do you? I mean it's not an act. You really don't understand it.

Oh, I certainly understand the tactic of trying to disassociate this group of anti-drag ******** from the group of ant-drag ******** they claim to be a part of in order to minimize the situation.

But I'll play along for the sake of funsies: sure, Thermal, despite their claims to have shut down 6 shows, and despite their claims to be part of the successful larger group of anti-drag protestors who have been organizing these armed protests, we should totally pretend that they're harmless because Thermal wants to. Wheee, ignoring reality is fun!

Death threat made against Mount Gambier Library staff over drag queen Dolly Diamond's book reading

Police say a death threat has been made against staff at the Mount Gambier Library over hosting a drag queen who is set to read books to "children of all ages" tomorrow.

Dolly Diamond's book reading has garnered controversy in the city in South Australia's south-east ahead of her show, part of the Mount Gambier Fringe.

Similar book readings have attracted protests in the US over the past few months, as well as interstate.

An SA Police spokesman said officers would be "monitoring the community event".

"Threats to any member of the community are unacceptable and any acts of violence will be responded to accordingly," he said.

The City of Mount Gambier council also confirmed a threat had been made over the phone to a staff member at the library.
What happens in America never takes very long to appear here.

ETA: The only upside to this story is that I learned that there exists a childrens' book called My Unicorn Farts Glitter.

Oddly, I'm one of the very few in this thread to consider the OP. What has it accomplished? Another poster said there were links on social media showing what it was being used for, but I couldn't find anything (said poster went suddenly quiet when this was pointed out).

As near as I can see, this site is...well, nothing. Sarah Gonzalez put it up, then nothing came of it. It's kind of a dumb thing done by someone who does such dumb things for other dumb people, and nothing comes of it.

Someone jumping on the bandwagon. The people that individually jump on it are not the problem. It's the bandwagon

Just like when you get a social media mob to get someone cancelled. Each individual tweet is harmless.

But pretty soon the lie gets spread and people start unconsciously making the association they want you to make.

As I pointed out earlier, it seems to have worked on you.

Undercover agents saw nothing ‘lewd’ at Orlando drag show. Florida is going after venue anyway

.....“Besides some of the outfits being provocative (bikinis and short shorts), agents did not witness any lewd acts such as exposure of genital organs,” the brief report stated. “The performers did not have any physical contact while performing to the rhythm of the music with any patrons.”.....

...But in February, the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation filed a complaint against the nonprofit that runs Plaza Live, accusing the venue of exposing children to sexual content.

Ah, I see. So this "bandwagon" is the popular opinion that the site is ineffective, possibly meaning that drag show opposers are functionally illiterate, and that Sarah Gonzalez is a raving homophobe who doesn't muster up much online support in her own home state.

That's, uh....an interesting theory you've cooked up there. I guess it worked on me, yes. Having not heard of RahRah before, I now think she is a fairly dense bigot. That's, um...some powerful bandwagon psychological manipulation, right there. Yep.

Seems Gonzalez' affiliate organization got what it wanted. A brewery called On Rotation was hosting an all ages drag show called Misfits and Mimosas, who first agreed to put an 18+ age restriction on the event (for which Gonzalez thanked them), but due to ongoing harassment, the brewery cancelled the event altogether. They conferred with local police, and it was determined that the brewery could not provide adequate security. Sounds like there were credible threats?

It doesn’t take a very deep understanding of drag to know that genitalia is almost never exposed. It sort of ruins the whole “drag” aspect of the drag show.

Ad good documentary on Danny La Rue that I found That I found.

https://youtu.be/e9dOrfO2gVs

In it they mention that he played Margate "to Mums and Dads and the children from the beach".

Also that his audience was 70% women.

Apparently he hated the word "drag" "I'm a man in a frock ... it's a joke"

But most entertainers outside of drag aren't normalizing womanface or hypersexualizing femininity for entertainment purposes. So the hazards aren't always readily apparent in other cases.

But I mean, yes, of course you'd think twice about sending Jimmy Carr to entertain a group of children in a school library.

And yes, I think that comedy womanface and hypersexualized femininity are entertainments properly reserved for mature adults. Kids are already processing more than enough in their lives, without having to try to figure out what drag is supposed to mean.

That's quite the whopper. Gender role reinforcement is incredibly common in our media, including and especially straight media. There's plenty of money to be made selling womanhood, including sexualized womanhood, to young girls. Hooters has a kids menu.

There's also the obvious direct parallel of the beauty pageant, which also includes child beauty pageants. From a purely aesthetic point of view, pageantry is something that doesn't interest me, and that includes drag, but you're really bending over backwards to try to claim that drag is unique in marketing hyper-femme pageantry towards children.

If anything, drag strikes me as having a far more healthy attitude about pageantry than their straight alternatives. Drag strikes me as being much less self-serious than regular beauty pageants. The obvious difference being that drag is about transgressing gender roles, and straight beauty pageants are about reaffirming them.
