Merged Musk buys Twitter!/ Elon Musk puts Twitter deal on hold....

So twitter will shortly feature Tucker and the exec chair of the WEF as CEO.

This should be fun.

Used to sell.
The choice rather screams that Musk screwed up and is desperately trying to find someone to reverse his mistakes.

Remains to be seen how hands off he's going to go. He's busy reassuring all the worst sources of advertiser poison that nothing meaningful is going to change. Who knows what's going to happen, but Musk seems like the exact kind of thin skinned loser that will be easily be influenced by criticisms from his right wing buddies should the new leadership try to fix the mess he made.

I've seen Musk's Twitter described as 8 dollar chan, and the name fits.

I disagree, vehemently.

I don't think Musk would have hired Rudkowski if he wasn't satisfied that she was completely aligned with his particular philosophy for how Twitter should operate; but I also think it matters little. As not only the new CTO of the company the way Musk himself describes the position, but also the owner and "executive chair", it doesn't seem like Rudkowski will be able to make any decision whatsoever without his explicit approval.

The only thing this change actually does at all, is (attempt to) put someone else's name in the news articles when Twitter makes mistakes or announces its boneheaded policy decisions. Musk is still going to be the one calling all of the shots.

It would have to be a miracle turnaround. Obviously Musk's disastrous management is the most attention grabbing thing about the acquisition, but it's worth remembering that the master business genius also massively overpaid for the company.

Even if the company was running reasonably well it's not clear that the company can afford the debt burden. Musk gave the shareholders a golden parachute right as tech stocks were taking a nosedive.

Yes, Twitter had good enough lawyers to hold Musk to his promises to a) overpay and b) give up his rights to due diligence.

More on Yaccarino:

"In 2018, Donald Trump appointed Yaccarino to serve on his Council on Sports Fitness and Nutrition for two years. As Ad Council chair in 2021 and 2022, she also worked with the Biden White House to help create a coronavirus vaccination campaign that reached over 200 million Americans."

I wonder how long it will be before we see Musk block her on Twitter, like he did with Bari Weiss, one of the authors of the Twitter Files.

Who? I thought he hired Linda Yaccarino.

Well he is both her employee and employer. She doesn't stand a chance.

IMO anyone who takes the job is a fool.

Even if the pay is such that you're set for life, anyone suitable would already be rich beyond avarice so they'd only be doing it to enhance their reputation - don't see that happening.

The glass cliff is looming.

Her appointment renewed questions about the “glass cliff,” a theory that women — as well as underrepresented minorities — are more likely to be hired for leadership jobs when there’s a crisis, which sets them up for failure. The term was coined in 2005 by University of Exeter professors Michelle Ryan and Alex Haslam, and there have been plenty of famous examples since then, from Yahoo’s Marissa Mayer to the U.K.‘s Theresa May.

Could Yaccarino be headed toward it?

Yaccarino seems ready to go head-to-head with Musk, though it’s not clear how that’ll play out. In a recent on-stage interview with him, she asked Musk if he could commit to not tweeting after 3 a.m. Agreeing that he’s “gotten myself in trouble a few times” with late night/early morning tweets, he responded with a noncommittal “I will aspire to tweet less at 3 a.m.”

She also asked Musk if he’s open to let advertisers “influence” his vision for Twitter, in “product development, ad safety, content moderation” so they could get more excited about investing in the platform.

Musk quickly shut her down.

“It’s totally cool to say that you want to have your advertising appear in certain places in Twitter and not in other places, but it is not cool to to try to say what Twitter will do,” he said. “And if that means losing advertising dollars, we lose it. But freedom of speech is paramount.”

Off topic I know, but Theresa May isn't an example of the glass cliff phenomenon. She pushed herself forward for a job that was vacated not because there was a crisis but because the previous incumbent is allergic to work.

She is an extreme example of the Peter principle in that she ended up roughly 20 grades higher than her talents warranted.
