Oh, is this a takeover offer, Rupert? Well, the prices is ...*checks adding machine*...$14 billion. In gold, preferably. If I was a Murdoch I'd consider a hostile takeover - much cheaper than the likely settlement.![]()
Any news about the Smartmatic lawsuit is good news at this stage, since the last I'd heard, it won't go to trial till 2025.

Looks like Fox might be trying to divert attention away from their perfidity and whitewash themselves by throwing Tucker under the bus. According to the NYT, Fox's board was supposedly shocked, shocked, I say, when they learned of a racist text sent by Tucker, and that's totally why Tucker was fired! Suuuure. Everyone was born yesterday, right? That, among a number of other revelations about how Tucker really is a *******, however well warranted, seems likely to be an opportunistic diversion.
Tucker? A racist?
I'm shocked I tell you!!!! Shocked!!!

Tucker's pushing of the Great Replacement conspiracy theory was because he was afraid of white immigrants coming from places like Norway.

So am I!!
We need to do something to reassure our core audience. They’re our whole business model.
SALEM, Ore. (AP) — Oregon’s attorney general announced Monday she has begun investigating the board of directors of Fox Corp. for breaching its fiduciary duties by allowing Fox News to broadcast false claims about the 2020 presidential election — claims that cost the broadcaster almost $800 million in a lawsuit.
Also joining the investigation is Oregon State Treasurer Tobias Read, who oversees the Oregon Public Employees Retirement Fund, which owns more than 250,000 shares of Fox stock. Both Attorney General Ellen Rosenblum and Read are Democrats.
“Treasurer Read and I believe that Fox’s board of directors breached its fiduciary duties by allowing Fox News to broadcast false claims that Dominion and Smartmatic rigged the 2020 presidential election,” Rosenblum said. “We hope to hold the board accountable and protect the long-term value of Oregon’s investment in Fox Corp.”
The head of Fox’s corporate communications did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the announcement.

A Delaware judge on Wednesday rejected Newsmax’s attempt to throw out part of a defamation case brought by the election technology company Smartmatic against the right-wing network.
Smartmatic sued Newsmax after the network repeatedly aired false claims about the 2020 election — specifically the lie that the company’s software was involved in an international plot to rig the presidential election against Donald Trump. The company later updated its lawsuit to add 26 additional examples of alleged defamation, claiming it found the new material during the discovery process, when Newsmax turned over “hundreds of hours” of broadcasts.
Newsmax, a smaller pro-Trump network, denies the allegations.
The ruling on Wednesday from Delaware Superior Court Judge Eric Davis means those additional allegations will remain in the lawsuit, in a blow to Newsmax.
Good news for Smartmatic.
Play stupid games, win stupid prizes, and this is serious for them... they are a much smaller outfit than Faux News, anything like the judgement against Faux would bankrupt Newsmax.
Oh well, they told lies about people and ****** around with the truth after the election, and now, as Justin Jones said in Tennessee back in April, "...they're in the find out phase?"
These right wing networks are in an impossible position. Their audience is constantly being fed conspiratorial, extremist content from smaller, online pundits and sources, and they expect a similar message from the big networks like Fox. Either Fox has to give them what they want and risk getting their asses sued off, or they risk losing their audience to someplace that will.
The small fry, social media crackpots generally don't have to worry about being sued because they don't have the kind of wealth to make it worthwhile, but any cable TV network is in a very difficult position.
Can't feel bad for these freaks. Fox has been pushing these people up to the edge for decades, and now they're losing them because they can no longer keep up with the radicalization they were heavily responsible for getting started.
What kills me is did they not have any lead lawyers to say "Hey... insinuate all you want, your audience will get it. Steer clear of specific baloney allegations against named individuals and organizations. That'll get you sued."
You know, the same lawyers that make news people say "allegedly" before everything. Did someone lock them in a room?
