Why We Shouldn't Procrastinate Repentance

Depends what you mean by "measure". We can certainly observe and measure the effects of neurotransmitters in the brain (what we call "love" consists of mostly dopamine and oxytocin, by the way). We can observe and measure human behaviour on an individual and on a cultural level. These observations and measurements tell us a lot about love, what it is, how it works, and how it affects peoples' behaviour.

So yes, I believe that we can measure love.

Is there anything else that you think science can't examine?

Science can examine anything.

Of course you do - it is a standard part of Christian theology that miracles occur. Do you have a favourite example of one? Preferably one that happened in modern times, rather one that is known only by historical documentation (such as the Resurrection), which can be hard for science to examine.

How about the Miracle of the Gulls?

Oh hey Billy. I talked to the mormons like you suggested. They didn't seem to have read the bible and weren't at all familiar with it. Is that typical for missionaries?

How about the Miracle of the Gulls?

What miracle? Hungry gulls find and follow a massive source of food and gorge on it. What's so miraculous about that?

But then it's probably because of this:
According to traditional accounts, legions of gulls appeared by 1848 June 9 following fervent prayers by the pioneer [Mormon] farmers.
Dude, the Mormons were praying about everything, night and day, every day. So it's hardly a coincidence that something happened after fervent prayer. Everything happened after fervent prayer, including mostly nothing out of the ordinary.

Why Is It Important Not To Procrastinate Repentance?

It is important that we don't procrastinate repentance because this life is the time given to us to prepare for eternity. We are eternal beings--we will all live forever, either in misery or in happiness, according to whether our works have been good or evil. If we do not improve our time during this "mortal probation," then comes the night "wherein no labor may be performed."

And the same spirit that possesses us, whether the devil or God, will have power to possess us in the afterlife. If our works have been evil, our reward will be spiritual death and endless misery. If our works have been good, our reward will be eternal life and endless happiness.

We need to repent now to be eligible for God's mercy. Mercy is for the penitent. If we don't repent, we are exposed to the whole law of justice and it is as if there has been no redemption made.

Why do I need to repent to a badly drawn character in a sub-par fiction novel?

It's also a classic case of the double standard that's applied to God's actions by believers, in that he is thanked for the beneficial ones but never blamed for the harmful ones. If he was responsible for the gulls, he must also have been responsible for the crickets.

Even weirder than the fact that he's fictional is the fact that he's also wildly morally inferior to almost everybody alive today. For most of us, repenting to that or taking a morality lesson from that would be like trying to learn to read & write from an illiterate person.
