Scumbag traitor.

Figured would be a MAGAt.

They love Putin cuz he's such an "alpha male" who hates Gays and immigrants.

I've noticed online that some are describing this traitor/idiot as a "whistleblower". I hope he spends a very long time behind bars.

I've been amazed (and somewhat disturbed) at how quickly some guys (in my experience, it's always guys) can become very agitated and defensive when someone disagrees with them on some assessment of the US military. I can easily picture a dumb argument quickly becoming very heated and this guy finally smuggling out the dox to prove he was right.

I can actually see it/hear it. Guy brags on Discord about all the top secret **** he sees while on duty. Other dudes: pics are it didn't happen brah. Guy: here you go!

Your imagination is nicer than mine. I'm picturing it like:

Brah, the Ukrainians are gonna fold in a few more weeks.
Dude, no way, they're getting more stuff than they can use from NATO!
What? That's ******* ********! You don't know what the **** you're talking about!
Oh yeah? Well **** you! What the **** do you know about it?

. . . It goes downhill from there, the outrage is real, and the next day someone would be stuffing documents into his jacket.

Poor Putin. His dreams of Empire are dead... but Russian culture isn't.

This wasn't, and still isn't, existential for the Russian people, despite what Russian leadership says. It is existential for Ukraine.

Anyone who says otherwise, at this point, is either mistaken or lying.

And even more so for Putin.

Putin didn't really have to start this war, but Ukraine could probably end it quickly by giving its pro-Russia regions to Russia, and thereby say "bye bye" to a lot of future problems.

This is actually an extremely simple situation but, when you deal with war and peace issues, the simplest ideas are not necessarily the best understood.

Ukraine (and perhaps its many supporters on this forum) would like to defeat and humiliate Russia, but I don't think this is working out very well for them.

Russia has made it very clear they will not stop the war until:

-Ukraine is free of all "Nazis".

-Ukraine codifies its commitment to not join NATO.

-NATO returns to its 1998 borders.

That's pretty much the same sort of series of events that leads to people posting classified documents on the World of Tanks forum.

The Wapo article which interviewed one of his small online group says he started by copying out secret reports and posting them, obviously to gain status in the group but also he claimed to want to keep his friends 'in the loop' as if this would help them somehow. Eventually, when others didn't seem to be greatly interested in what he was posting, he gave up transcribing stuff and just photographed hundreds of reports and posted those.

It was quite some time before the stuff started to leak out of the small group and get used to try to win internet arguments.

It's kinda sad and pathetic but it's absolutely slam dunk treason.

Perhaps he was just showing off to his friends and hadn't really thought through the implications.

That's the impression I got reading about him on the BBC website. He's barely out of his teens, and doesn't seem very mature even given his age. I hope his sentence reflects this.

I hope they throw the book at him. These idiots think they're being patriotic when they are actually being traitors and this is a direct result of all the 'Democrats, wokeness, liberals etc are destroying America and must be stopped at all costs' ******** being pushed by idiots on the right.

As someone who lived through the cold war it is absolutely astonishing to me how the GOP and its associates have become fans of the very totalitarian regimes they used to so steadfastly oppose in the name of freedom, just because they don't like the direction their free society is freely travelling. Basically 'Freedom...as long as things are how I want them to be, else I'm perfectly cool inflicting my minority views on the majority at the point of a gun.'

Also, if the call is for leniency because of his age then perhaps he wasn't old enough to have been given access to this level of intelligence...to remove the ageism aspect, let's rephrase that as, perhaps someone so early / junior in their career shouldn't have had access to this stuff.

To spell out why this description is nonsense:

A "whistleblower" is a person inside of an organization who learns of criminal or ethical misconduct within said organization, and alerts the proper public agencies (law enforcement, IRS...), or the proper agencies within the organization (auditors, supervisory board...), or, failing that, the public (via the press, public data dumps...) with a view to rectify the misconduct.

This Teixeira dude was an insider alright, but ...
a) ...the documents he hauled were not focused on documenting any misconduct, they seem to have been on a number of issues including lots of perfectly legitimate intelligence assessments.
b) ...he did not alert any proper agency, nor the public or the press; instead he kept it all inside a tiny group of young gamers. For bragging rights or whatever
c) ...he did not have a plausible, viable goal, let alone plan, to put an end to any misconduct

So there simply was no whistleblowing.

As I understand the very scant description in BBC News, Texeira was part of a chatroom where he regularly posted secret documents that he handled. Possibly because he wanted to show off to his MAGA friends what an important guy he was, having access to all those documents, and possibly because he thought his political friends were entitled to know what he knew. He apparently did think that it would stay inside the closed group, but as we all know, if more than two persons know a secret, it is bound not to stay a secret.
After some months, one or more of his friends posted it outside the closed group, and that’s where his problems began.

These idiots think they're being patriotic when they are actually being traitors...

I don't think there's any evidence he thought he was being patriotic. The group he shared the material with were a random international bunch of youngsters and he wasn't trying to expose any wrongdoing, rather just trying to show off by sharing the inside view he had access to.

Do we know for sure he was a MAGA Trump-supporting American fascist type? I wonder if you're reading more into the early reports than is actually there.

No arguments here.

This is spot on.

he was the Admin of a far-right Christian Nationalist Privat Discord Server.

Draw your own conclusions.

I'm possibly guilty of inferring from descriptions of his family, his membership of another, right wing chat group, gun wielding pics and anti-semitic posts etc and the fact that he was reported as posting the stuff because people 'had a right to know the truth'.

Happy to revise as new evidence comes to light but, at the moment, it looks like a duck and sounds like a duck.

No arguments here.

Yeah, possibly inferring too much and happy to change my view in light of emerging evidence.
