Hey, it's in all caps so it must be true, right?THE MAYOR OF LONDON IS HAVING STREET NAMES CHANGED, AND STATUES TAKEN DOWN BECAUSE THEY ARE OFFENSIVE TO MUSLIMS. HE ALSO APPEARS TO BE DELIBERATELY INSULTING THE BRITISH PEOPLE BY THINGS LIKE HAVING A STATUE PUT UP TO COMMEMORATE BLACK SLAVES TAKEN BY BRITAIN.
I see why you are concerned. That one Muslim mayor's influence is enormous!
Tributes to slave traders and colonialists removed across UK
[Jan 29, 2021]
Scores of tributes to slave traders, colonialists and racists have been taken down or will be removed across the UK, a Guardian investigation has found, with hundreds of others under review by local authorities and institutions.
In what was described by historians as an “unprecedented” public reckoning with Britain’s slavery and colonial past, an estimated 39 names – including streets, buildings and schools – and 30 statues, plaques and other memorials have been or are undergoing changes or removal since last summer’s Black Lives Matter protests.
The movement to remove contentious landmarks has involved a wide section of society, from schools and universities to private landlords, pubs, churches, charitable trusts and councils.
In November, the Welsh government identified 209 monuments, buildings or street names linked with slavery. The first minister, Mark Drakeford, said the audit was part of “a much bigger piece of work” that would consider how the nation moves forward.
Similar reviews have been commissioned by Glasgow city council, which predates the Black Lives Matter protests...
New Monument in London Will Honor Victims of Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade
'Victims of the slave trade', yeah right. We all know what this statue is really about. Those African slaves were all Muslims!A new monument honoring the victims of the trans-Atlantic slave trade is coming to London, officials announced last month. It will be located at West India Quay in the city’s Docklands, an area that has a long, fraught history with the trade.
“It is a city whose wealth was built on the backs, the lives, the experiences of those who were enslaved,” says Debbie Weekes-Bernard, London’s deputy mayor for communities and social justice... “We see it in our institutions, we see it in our buildings, we see it in our public realm.”...
According to the National Maritime Museum, British colonial ships purchased and transported an estimated 3,415,500 enslaved Africans between 1662 and 1807. In the 1710s and 1720s alone, British ships carried nearly 200,000 enslaved individuals across the Atlantic, and as many as 50 ships left London for West Africa each year.
“Though it’s much less widely discussed than its American counterpart, London’s relationship to slavery is profound,” wrote Akhil Sharma for the New York Times in 2014. He added, “Slavery there was as brutal as it was in Mississippi or Alabama.”...
Preliminary discussions began in the summer of 2020, when a statue of 18th-century enslaver Robert Milligan was removed following racial justice protests. The new monument will be located nearby.
And don't forget - everything you read in the Tabloid press is 100% true!
Sadiq Khan received racist abuse after false reports he blocked Queen statue
Sadiq Khan has received a wave of social media abuse, some of it racist, after newspapers incorrectly reported that he might block a new statue of the Queen, days after the London mayor warned that some media outlets were “monetising” hatred.
The story, initially reported by the Telegraph under the headline “No room for Queen Elizabeth II statue on Trafalgar Square’s fouth plinth, rules Sadiq Khan”, was printed despite a statement saying this was not the case...
While the headline of the Telegraph story was later amended, the idea of Khan supposedly blocking the statue was picked up by a series of other mainstream outlets, and it trended on social media...
It comes less than a week after Khan, speaking at the Labour conference, said analysis showed that 230,000 racist tweets had been posted about him since he took the role in 2016...
“It’s no secret that using Sadiq’s name online guarantees clicks and generates income. That’s particularly true if there’s a way the headline can be used to suggest Sadiq is not truly British – as it gets picked up and widely shared by the far right and racist trolls online."
And you are 100% right about him insulting the British people, who are proud of their history of brutal racism and colonial oppression.
