Drag Shows!!

Yes, because scheduling anything that neo-Nazis have decided they don't like is only flexing against the neo-Nazis. Nobody is scheduling events at the library for the kids, they're only doing it to flex against the skinheads and white supremacists.

Do you really think the supporters outside the event were there for the kids, of for the Nazis? I mean, come on. When you see something you like, do you usually hang around outside the event? They were there for each other, not to enjoy a reading with the kiddies.

Ahem:

In fairness, the event wasn't attacked. As usual, it was the support v protest groups that came out to play with each other. Like the shows themselves, it's not about the children. It's the adults flexing against each other using the children as a backdrop.

You weren't only talking about outside. You literally said that the children's programs inside the library were not about the children.

Correct. And the story we are talking about is not the event planning, nor the event itself. It is about the demonstration outside.

Ah, so when you were specifically mentioning "the shows themselves", you weren't talking about the shows themselves.:boggled:

Indeed, what strange bedfellows some anti-drag folk find themselves aligned with:
But it's not like they can keep saying "I didn't realise" indefinitely. At some point they have to realise who and what is currently driving these campaigns.

And those who say "they are going too far" seem to imply that they have the same concerns.

I wish that they would at least acknowledge that this is about far right recruiting and LGBTQI hatred, even if they are against those things themselves. Or even, especially if they are against those things themselves.

This is the first time I have heard about Drag Queen Story Hour in Denmark, but my local library will have it this Friday: '

"Børnene fra Sølvgade" handler om fire forældreløse børn, der bor alene – men som møder Miss Nelly, der bliver deres hushjælp og reserveforælder. Miss Nelly er en mand med nederdel, højhælede støvler og strithår, og han giver børnene tryghed og en forståelse for, at det er okay at være anderledes.
Den Lille Kulturnat: Forskellige stemmer! (FRB.dk, Mar 17, 2023)
The book "The Children from Silver Road" is about four orphans who live alone - but then they meet Miss Nelly, who becomes their housekeeper and substitute parent. Miss Nelly is a man with a skirt, high-heeled boots and spiky hair, and he makes the children feel safe and understand that it's okay to be different.
Chilren's Evening of Culture: Voices of Diversity

It seems to have everything I have heard about in the USA, even the death threats from right-wing loonies and accusations of pedophilia:
Dragqueens får dødstrusler og bliver kaldt pædofile forud for børneshow i næste uge (TV2Kosmopol, Mar 11, 2023)
'Drag-underholdning i børnehøjde': Politiker i hård kritik af arrangement på Frederiksberg (BT, Mar 9, 2023)
Én ting har ændret alt - nu får Magnus dødstrusler for at være dragqueen: - Skulle dræbes med de bare næver (Frederiksbergliv.dk, Mar 10, 2023)

I am surprised by both the story hour and the angry right-wing politicians. I would probably never have heard about the former if it weren't for the latter. I guess the politicians from the Danish People's Party hope that they can get some support by copying a page from the MAGA playbook. They lost a lot of votes at the most recent election to parliament and have become almost insignificant.

Four kids living on their own together and an adult saunters in to be their protector? Sounds like Miss Nelly is what we call in the States a pimp.

You highlighted "housekeeper and substitute parent", but your mind jumped to "pimp". This says more about your assumptions/thought process than it does about the story.

So bizarre, in fact, that one might suppose it was not meant seriously? No? Maybe?
It being a joke does not remove the fact that it was a bizarre association.

Would your mind have gone there if it had been a het in gender typical clothes?

(I'm not accusing you of homophobia. It was, you know, a joke)

You look beautiful in your wrath!

I always love Susan Hayward's comment on "The Conqueror":
"That one was real hoot. I ,with my classic Red Hair was supposed to be a Tartar Princess? Look as though some Irishman has a interesitng night on the road to old Cathay".

I don't believe that there is a poster on this forum that could honestly claim to be so dense as to not realize that the very outlandishness of it was what made it silly.

Absolutely. The weird part that jumped out at me was four orphans living together. Do children do that where you live? Around here, that would sound more like a bunch of runaway teens.

Except that you asked levelly, and you have baselessly accused me of homophobia more than once.

You guys keep pretending that it's just too complex for mortal man to comprehend. I've had enough Romper Room for the day.

Nonsense, it was a joke I tells ya. Everything is OK if you say it's a joke.

You just don't have a sense of humour. If you did you would have been rolling around on the floor laughing instead of huffing and puffing.

Lighten up

Funny thing is that if you say Charlie and the Chocolate Factory reads like a book about slavery and child abuse you get called "woke" and told to lighten up.
