A reopened House Ethics Committee probe of Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz has widened in recent weeks, with ABC News reporting that "multiple new witnesses" have been contacted in the investigation.

The committee's investigators initially deferred an investigation into Gaetz following a request from the Department of Justice, which was conducting its own investigation. But last June, reports surfaced that the committee was re-examining allegations surrounding the controversial lawmaker, who has been a driving force behind the House GOP's recent division and stoked the months-long speakership battle in 2023.

Coming up to three years on this thread and shockingly enough, Matt Gaetz is still a serving and prominent member of the House. :(

Public people have learned that if they just brazen out accusations and rally round their powerful and influential friends that they can ride out situations which would previously have been career ending. :mad:

Matt Gaetz has been served with a subpoena to take part in a deposition in a civil lawsuit connected to allegations that he had sex with a 17-year-old girl, ABC News reports.

The subpoena is part of a lawsuit brought by a friend of the Florida Republican representative, targeting the young woman and others.

The subpoena was issued by lawyers representing the young woman who is now in her 20s. The allegations were at the centre of an investigation by the Department of Justice lasting years into the claims that Mr Gaetz had sex with her when she was a minor, according to ABC.

Gaetz, MTG, Kennedy (R, LA), Tuberville, Boebert, and Gosar (among others) are the consequences for letting people with IQ's below 80 vote.
