Just like Hitler.
The head of state trying to micromanage military operations usually does not turn out well.

Yup.

We've suffered quite a bit from the myth that Hitler was some sort of genius rather than a lunatic gambler who had a hot streak and like all lunatic gamblers could never walk away until they lost everything. At some point he became the allies most valuable asset.

(That Dirty Dozen sequel where they wind up assassinating the general who was planning on assassinating Hitler rather than Hitler was genius. )

Does micromanagement ever turn out well? It seems by definition a sign one is a failure at delegating authority and thus bad at management.

About the criticism of Biden 'unpatriotically' visiting Kyiv on Presidents' Day. Wasn't there a coterie of GOPers who went to Moscow on July 4th a couple or few years back? And honorable mention goes to the event they held in Hungary some time after that.

The GOP is patriotic, to Russia.

Well, Xi just stabbed Biden in the back with is blaming the US for Ukraine.
Time to face facts:China does not wish us well. Biden needs to take a tougher stand with them. Playing nice is not working.

When has communist China ever wished us well? They only tolerated us as an ally during WW2 because Japan was a bigger threat.

The Communist were not in control of CHina during World War 2.

I know that. But Mao was leading the Chinese Communist Army that had been fighting the Nationalist in their civil war and suspended that fight in order to fight the Japanese and joined with the Allies.

The GOP is so jealous of Biden. It's not just trying to fulfill McConnell's failed effort to make Obama a one term POTUS. They appear to be doing an amateurish job of it.

If I was the GOP (and maybe they dont have many gen x'ers deciding at top level yet, but they should!) I'd be salivating at the fact that they were fully backing an 80yr old white man...to start a 2 yr campaign slog. It's a gift.

In the SWOT analysis, it's a strategic and statistical advantage to GOP who have options... and by 'GOP options' I mean the whole of anyone wanting their name on the ticket, with or without approval from any rank. Just wait and see.

*My dream for 2024 is that there is such a quandary on effective candidates that some sort of 'Atlas Shrugged" campaign event happens where big innovators in industry, instead of disappearing, heavily back some independent party commoneffingsense candidates to get them on ballots and overthrow the 2 party stranglehold.

In the SWOT analysis, it's a brand advantage to GOP. Just wait and see.

Great. Because "Big Industry Innovators" have always proved to be sincerely dedicated to wanting what's best for the American people.

Innovators doesnt mean crony donors and big corporate lobbyists and far-anything PAC's..etc....

I mean mavericks or 'resident rebels'... Hypothetical powerful ones...Influencers with principles, with friends. That is why it is a dream. It's fine if you disagree but perhaps you didnt understand what I meant.

Elon Musk? Jeff Bezos? Glad I'm at the end of my existence if these are your saviour types

Another “We need a businessman to fix government!” opinion? Again (and again) (and yet again), government is not a business.

We need a rusty, straight-edge razor blade to power the windmills!

Just wait til you try and explain to your average GoP voter that actually yes big businesses almost all have debt. In fact many growth companies have huge piles of debt. They do not operate on a balanced budget.

Seeing that opinion written after Trump the "businessman" ****** everything up royally just a couple of years ago is a bit of an eye-popper.

I mean if we could take all the brilliant people that actually operate SpaceX and plug them into government roles... that might be good. Would be interesting to see how/if engineers could solve all our problems.

I think there's a real difference between a businessman and a person who understands business, even if they can overlap. Business is not conducted for the public good. Too many businessmen are also liars, bigots, cheaters, and tax evaders, and their success at this is no gauge of their usefulness to the rest of us.

I'm reminded of the argument we heard after the financial crash of 2006+, when many people suggested that we hire the people who were responsible for it, because they were the only ones who understood it. No they weren't. They claimed to understand it and ****** us over because they didn't understand anything but their pet hedgehog memes.

The expressed wish was for an Atlas Shrugged moment, so apparently the belief is that big powerful businesspeople are making their money for the public good.

I understood exactly what you meant because I understand what the word "innovator" means. As already mentioned, men like Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos.

Yeah, I really want "mavericks or 'resident rebels' running the country. "Influencers with principles, with friends"? How about letting the Kardashians run the country?

As already said: Running a country is not a business. The main objective of a business is to make money.

Most of the people I am thinking of would not be known to you or the public at large. Most of the people I am thinking of have an incentive to make the majority of the US more prosperous, not poor or victimized. Rising tides raising all the boats...and all that.

If the US political elites today are polarizing and both moving to more and more govt control and making corrupt deals to keep power (like the disaster in Venezuela), then there may many back room discussions on what could be done to prevent it.

Probably won't happen. We will just plod along in decline.
