And it might be sexist, but yeah it does appear that at least in the US its men that use guns for mass murder sprees.

Maybe only US women should be allowed to hold a gun?

You do keep putting up convincing data that shows you need to do something about your gun culture.

Just a personal opinion, but the US would be much better off doing something about the culture of criminality.

Yes, but only for people of colour.

If doing something about "gun culture" was the be-all and end-all to stop mass shootings, there would've been approximately 92% less shootings with 10 or more victims last year using your metric.

Perhaps he supports a Universal Basic Income for everyone! It would potentially solve 'culture of criminality'.

Ya probably. But then rich people commit crimes too so why give away free money to the poor if it doesn't help? It must be something else!

Can the USA only do one thing at a time?

No, under the Republicans, they can give tax cuts and implement voter suppression simultaneously. ;)

It's interesting how some people can simultaneously be very concerned about young black people shooting each other and somewhat ambivalent due to the nature of the people being killed.

Yay - When you can't argue with the facts, ridicule the individual. Great debating there...

"Or if he wants to target action at black people reparations?"

That was a serious suggestion - why do you think it wasn't, because of Bogative's past racism would mean he would never agree to such a solution to reducing crime?

Well a) doing nothing hasn't worked, b) doing less than nothing (ie making gun access easier) hasn't worked and c) countries which have taken gun ownership seriously have improved their gun safety, therefore there is obviously some stuff the US can do to reduce gun deaths.

But hey, the right's right to hold the country hostage trump's everybody else's right to life, doesn't it?

We know exactly what you mean.

Hey, looky here, more mind-reading at the ol' skeptic's forum. Just so you don't get too far off track in your imagination, I'll post exactly what I mean.

Since no one on this board has likely heard of this mass shooting with 11 victims because it involved gang activity and a drive-by, I'll post it for reference.

Lakeland, Florida mass shooting

One of the four suspects involved in the shooting got himself shot by law enforcement after fleeing, carjacking and attempting to run over a police officer.

Here's a list of his prior offenses:

Greene's criminal history spans back to 2013 when he was a pre-teen. Arrests of Greene since that time include: Battery (Nov. 2013); Battery (Jan. 2014); Marijuana Distribution and Marijuana Possession (January 2015); Fighting and Disorderly Conduct (March 2015); Hit & Run and Resisting (March 2016); Possession of Marijuana and Drug Paraphernalia (April 2016); Robbery, Larceny, Battery, Criminal Mischief, and Disorderly Conduct (May 2016); Battery (Dec. 2016); Weapon Possession (Jan. 2017); Possession of Marijuana and Drug Paraphernalia (July 2018), Assault and Fleeing to Elude (August 2022); and numerous Violations of Probation and Failures to Appear in Court.

He had three outstanding warrants, two of which were for felonies, at the time of his death.
Residential Burglary (F3), Conspiracy to Commit Burglary (F3), and Trespassing with Larceny (M1)

Here's what he would've been charged with if he were arrested:
fleeing to elude, attempted murder of a LEO, Possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, robbery and carjacking, resisting arrest, and possession of drugs with intent to sell.

Here's what was found in the truck he was fleeing in before he carjacked an elderly woman:
28 grams of Cocaine, 4,178.9 grams of marijuana, a Glock .357 handgun, a Glock .45 handgun, and $2,813.00 in US currency. Greene was also in possession of $5,833 cash found on his person.

ETA: the deceased was 21 years old.

The culture of criminality.

Bogative talks about the "culture of criminality". Like mental health issues or the entertainment media which is also often blamed, most of advanced western societies suffer from these issues yet nowhere else do mass shootings on this scale happen. It is almost as if there must be some other element, such as the prevalence of gun culture and the ease of access to firearms which may contribute to the problems in America. As I am sure I have argued in the past here it has little to do with race and far more to do with availability of tools of death.

This is a typical response on this board.

I point out that the majority of mass shootings are committed by black people, not white people.

It is assumed that I mean black people commit mass shootings because of their race, even though I never stated that, and then I'm called a racist for pointing out a simple fact.

If mass shootings occur primarily because of the availability of the tools, why aren't white people committing the overwhelming majority of mass shootings considering the population ratio of 5:1 compared to blacks? Is it your belief that whites don't have the same access to firearms?

It's a culture of guns. People have bumper stickers that say "Smith & Wesson". Why? Do people have bumper stickers with the name of their home alarm system? "I Use ADT!"

Guns are way more than just personal protection for way too many people. That is the culture.

The entire world knows it and always has!

"Oh, Chicago! Bang Bang!"

ANother mass shooting in Misissippi a few hours ago, and no one has updated this thread. This is how routine these shootings have become.
