Merged Musk buys Twitter!/ Elon Musk puts Twitter deal on hold....

So this is odd. There are posts being made, not by Elon, but by Matt Taibbi. And he's doing it slowly. I'm pretty sure he's writing a series of tweets in real time, not as an entirely-planned thing.

He's 7 tweets in at this point and it's literally just background info on Twitter and outlining the existence of moderation tools.

As it turns out, Twitter as been... less than reliable as of late. Good luck actually reading all of Matt's posts in that thread.

The biggest shocker would appear to be to Matt, himself. Just a few months ago, he was quite certain that the real story was the FBI intervening on the distribution of the article. Now he's admitting that there was no government intervention of any kind.
 
Apparently Musk thinks that the government was involved in the coverup. He apparently doesn't realize that at the time, Trump was in charge.

Or he's all-in on deep state nonsense.

Hilariously enough the New York Post, whose story was the one removed from Twitter, has some reporting that picks apart this flailing by Musk. Some interesting points.

-The request for removal came from the Biden campaign using avenues available to Trump's campaign as well, and used by them.

-The story was removed because it contained 'hacked' emails, but also personal information including phone numbers which are were against Twitter TOS to post.

-The additional requests from Biden's campaign posted by Twitter came after the story's removal, and were each from other users posting dick pics.

And as you point out, Trump was the president at the time. It looks like there is the hope that a lot of noise will be confused with a lot of evidence of wrongdoing.
 
I am generally in favor of private groups responding to reasonable and beneficial government requests with descriptions of how they can intercourse themselves....

....but...

Are people seriously staking the position that politicians and government just shouldn't be able to ask? That nicely asking asking a company to do something is unacceptable?

Free speech is evil if done by the 'wrong' people. Real free speech is only from real True Americans and all others are not allowed, so the 'reasoning' goes.

Elon instead posted 20 minutes late, revealing... that he still had some factchecking to do! You'd think that would have happened before the big promise, which just proves that you're not a super genius.

Uhh... please don't insult children like that. ;)

Still, better to call it what it actually is. Right-wing disinformation. Just like right-wing extremists have been actively working to disinform the public about... it feels like everything that they rely on propaganda-wise, really.

It's early yet for that maybe.

Then the class action suits of fired employees (two of those) just can't be a good thing either.

He has bungled nearly everything so far, bad decisions on every corner so far.
A loss of 100 billion of his fortune has been sunk in this so far I have heard. The Tesla stocks he used to get this going are probably a lot of that.
What a mess ....
 
Have Matt Taibbi and Elon Musk discovered who shot Kennedy yet? What are they hiding in Area 51? Can’t wait to find out more from their investigations!

Yep! It was an absolute outrage that Twitter did not facilitate and amplify a dirty tricks campaign, and according to the First Amendment of the United States, or my own imagination, this means that Donald Trump must be reinstated as divine leader.

He brought some Tesla engineers in to help him evaluate who should be fired and who shouldn't. I doubt if there are any helping to keep Twitter running. If there are, it would be quite a good way of sneakily transferring funds from Tesla to Twitter: have them work at Twitter but be paid by Tesla.
