Hello I'm the Lockpicking Lawyer and today we're going to be taking a look at the the locks of Twitter HQ

The oddest thing is that the best place to observe the collapse of Twitter is on twitter itself.

At any rate, some people are claiming that minor glitches are showing up already, threads not loading correctly and other minor stuff. The extreme work ethic ultimatum seems to have backfired with around 75% of current employees refusing to work 75 hours per week. Coupled with earlier layoffs as much as 90% of the employees might be gone (relative to what they had when Musk came in with the sink), the remainder are mostly immigrants on work visas.

There are predictions that the software and hardware can sort of run on autopilot for a while, but that they don't have enough staff left to deal with any issues that come up - hardware or software. And on a platform as heavily used as Twitter, issues will come up. Looking on twitter right now there are people claiming to be recently departed employees thinking the platform might crash tonight.

I'm really curious to see how this all plays out over the next few weeks.

Ohhhhh, he was there to sink Twitter. Now I get it.

After mentioning that Twitter will become "much more engineering-driven," he gave his employees a choice to get on board with his ambitions or leave the company. He added, "If you are sure that you want to be part of the new Twitter, please click yes on the link below," adding, "Anyone who has not done so by 5pm ET tomorrow (Thursday) will receive three months of severance."

Poor babies, only 3 months severance. This is what happens when you are raised to be weak and entitled...you whine about such gifts from your employer. He wants people who are driven and goal-oriented, like himself.

'You won't let me exploit you so you must be weak' is exactly the spin I was expecting.

I'm sure Elon is saying the same thing, crying into that sink. Yeah, they just can't 'handle' the work, days the people not used to working with peers who don't just roll over. It is the weakness of brittle narcissists.

Then IMO he is going about it in entirely the wrong way. In that kind of business you don't need worker bees who simply put in the hours, you need lazy people who try to achieve their goals in innovative ways so they can go off and do the things they enjoy.

Over 30 years ago I worked for Arthur Andersen's consulting division (yes it was before they became Andersen Consulting and way before they rebranded as Accenture). They had a similar policy in their London office, 100 hour 7 day weeks were the norm. As a result those people who were fully on-board dutifully stretched their tasks to fill that time and a culture of presenteeism became the norm. People were very unproductive but it didn't matter.

In this case it sort of made sense, they charged by the hour and paid by the day. Those 60 hours of overtime were pure profit. Twitter doesn't even have that excuse.

Elon Musk seems to have a single, horribly outdated person management style. Because he has ditched the rest of the old guard there's no-one to effectively dilute his approach and he'll likely end up with a company peopled by those who cannot leave (hardly the group you want) and people like himself (a company can only have so many people like him before they start attacking each other).

I'm just going to say, it seems to work for him. He is among the wealthiest men in the world, if not the wealthiest. SpaceX and Tesla to his credit.

We are sitting here at the ISF, which has about 50 active posting members, from what I can tell.

Let that sink in, while we levy our criticisms.

What makes you think he tried any of this with any of the other companies? If he had, I am pretty sure the results will be the same.

I doubt he suddenly changed his expectations and management style with this acquisition.

I doubt he suddenly changed his expectations and management style with this acquisition.

Evidence suggests he has. The Twitter acquisition triggered his latent megalomania and I guess the media coverage really hurt the snowflake's fee fees. Now he is resorting to being petty and projecting it on easy targets...the employees.

Err... Well then. This makes for quite the claim.

Someone has to say it: Elon Musk has lied for 27 years about his credentials. He does not have a BS in Physics, or any technical field. Did not get into a PhD program. Dropped out in 1995 & was illegal. Later, investors quietly arranged a diploma - but not in science.

It's... a long thread, to offer a little warning. Also offers a bit more context with regards to Thiel and co's urging Musk to take over Twitter. Also, it apparently wouldn't be the first time that Thiel destroyed a media outlet to the tune of significant financial loss to himself.
