Electric Vehicles

As ridiculous as the boy-racers driving around Milazzo, Sicily last summer, with the tinniest of euro-pop blasting out of their tiny hatchbacks

That's a cool looking car. The fake exhaust noise (and simulated gear-shifting) is dumb, though.

The Cult of the "Manual" has made the creation of what are little more than dash mounted gearshift shaped fidget spinners so boomers can brag that "I actually control my car, I don't just point it in a direction and press the pedal" almost inevitable.

Never claimed I hadn't...

Does the fact a 4 year old can master it mean that everyone who can master it must be a 4 year old? Think carefully before you answer...

Is the claim that a 4 year old can master it not intended to imply childishness? It certainly reads that way, and it is a pretty good reason for the people whose skills you're equating with 4 year olds* to have gotten defensive.

*eta: in combination with comparing their cars to children's toys, don't forget

The linked video doesn't sound like the exhaust even sounds good, for being a silly posturing add-on. I guess it's a toss-up whether the simulated gear-shifting jerks are sillier than the most likely annoying/deafening to everyone around you simulated monster engine noises.

Which is it, smooth or jerking?

//Best guess//

The transmission actually shift perfectly smoothly but give some sort of haptic feedback to the gearshift to make people feel like they are actually doing something.

//Slight hijack//

I'll have to do some Googling to find it but I saw a car guy on Youtube review a very, every early low production electric car that actually did have a manual transmission and the implantation of it was hilariously and barely worked.

I'm baffled as to why you'd slow it down by having shift points, instead of simply pinning you to your seat.

Because it is about the experience not performance. Next you will be calling having a speaker that makes it sound like you have a loud internal combustion engine silly.

No

That depends if you choose to read it that way in order to attempt a gotcha.

Well, if I were to compare someone's car to a child's toy and point out that a 4 year old could master it, I honestly don't see how I could expect them not to take it as an attempted dig. Is this one of those "I'm not an ******* I just tell it like it is" things people do when trying to get away with saying ******* things?

Why is an easy to use and understand user interface a bad thing? When you get overly fancy with your user interface you get things like how Jeep killed Anton Yelchin with a bad user interface. If they had gone with one pedal driving he would still be alive.

No.

it isn't a bad thing as such. For those who don't want to use or are unable to use a more complex system, it's just fine.
