The Russian Invasion of Ukraine Part 4

I'm still not seeing any denial from Ukraine WRT four of these HIMARS units being destroyed.

This here is from the 6th of July, taken from Facebook and translated with Google:

ATTENTION FAKE

Russian propagandists are actively spreading false reports about the alleged destruction of the American artillery system "HIMARS".

We emphasize that this message is not true and is nothing more than a fake.

"HIMARS" jet systems provided by American partners constantly deal a crushing blow to strategically important enemy points, which leads to enormous losses among equipment, personnel and provision of occupation troops.

Trust only trusted sources and believe in the APU!

At the time I think the claim was that there were two HIMARS destroyed. The evidence that had been provided was that video with those gas tanks, in which you could see nothing.

A third destroyed HIMARS was allegedly seen in that one video at that lumber yard, or whatever it was exactly. There were photos released of what has really been hit, which can be seen in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wXBR8Vza4rc
I don't have a more direct source than this for those images, which surely must come from Ukrainian sources.

I am not 100% sure about the fourth. I think it is that destroyed FMTV-Truck that was 'captured' by Russian forces was maybe seen in Lyssychansk. I have only seen some 'debunking':

Never encountered this claim in the wild, so to speak, and it is probably not very popular as it is just beyond daft. I am not sure if there has been any kind of official denial.

From WarTranslated

Regarding the effectiveness of the systems, I won’t be going into whether the results of the work of the Western MLRS are its advantages (I think that it is put mildly) or the disadvantages of our air defence, but without revealing any secrets I will say that all uses of these systems (of which there were not many) were at very important facilities, and not positions in the field. Even with shooting down a third of the missiles, the rest dealt the necessary for Ukraine damage to our side.

But the highlight of our discussion among the fighters was the alleged destruction of HIMARS yesterday, where in reality a timber truck was destroyed that was carrying logs to the frontline of UAF for strengthening of their positions. And generally, for the future, if you see glued up frames, low-quality filming from an UAV (we don’t have others yet), where nothing apart from pixels and something smouldering can be seen, which requires you to fantasise – consider the information to be untrue. If we really managed to locate the position of a HIMARS and then destroy it, believe me there would be plenty of shots, ours wouldn’t miss an opportunity to play it in the media for a few weeks in the daily news.

The logic in the second is pretty clear.

And if there are only two HIMARS left, then when Ukraine gets the new ones, and the similar MLRS from the UK, then it will be a real struggle for the Russians.

<Respectfully snipped for length>

Thanks for all that. In the time since I made that post I managed to run across an article from Reuters that mentions Kyiv's denial of the claim Russia made on Friday. Good enough for me and I'll just toss Russia's claims on the Russian propaganda pile.

Kyiv rejected Moscow's claims, calling them "fakes" designed to undermine the West's support for Ukraine.

Next up will be the trashing of Russia's claim ( to Turkey ) that it had nothing to do with the missile strike on Odessa.

Because they don't look cool? That's whey the USAF has been trying to get rid of the A-10 for more than 30 years.

Who says they don't look cool? I think they look wicked! It's kind of like of a real life version of those crazy planes Dick Dastardly and his henchmen would hunt Yankee Doodle Pigeon with, only come to life! An airframe wrapped around a giant gun, with a pair of oversized jet engines just sort of stuck to the sides near the tail. It just screams "Badass"!

(Not an example of an A-10 video)

I personally agree. But if the USAF had it's way, it wouldn't have even had them for the first Gulf War. The A-10's biggest problem is the writing on the side, which ought to say "US ARMY".

The Curious Case of the missile strike on Odessa.

Akar said the Turkish defence ministry spoke to the Ukrainian defence minister, Oleksii Reznikov, and infrastructure minister, Oleksandr Kubrakov, Ukraine’s signatory for the grain deal yesterday.

“We received the necessary information,” said Akar. “There was a missile attack there. They stated that one of the missile attacks hit one of the silos there, and the other one fell in an area close to the silo, but that there was no negativity in the loading capacity and capability of the docks, which is important, and that the activities there can continue.”

Akar added that he had also spoken with the Russian side: “In our contact with Russia, the Russians told us that they had absolutely nothing to do with this attack and that they were examining the issue very closely and in detail.

If Russia didn't do it, then who did?

Just like the Russians. They sign a deal on grain exports and then attack the port of Odessa. The only surprise is why the UN ever thought the Russians would keep their word. Scum.

(By Russians I mean the Russian government and security apparatus)

As if the times they gunned down innocent people in humanitarian aid corridors they agreed to honour weren't clue enough.

If Russia agrees to something just ask one question.

Are they telling me a lie?

The answer is always yes.

Yes, if the Army had them when they get shot down it won't be on the Air Force.

While not directly encircled, the Russians seem to be cut off for all effective purposes, apparently. The request for a green corridor apparently was indeed made and, well...

Ukraine refuses the enemy's request for a green corridor for thousands of soldiers to exit Kherson region. Ukraine demands their surrender of troops and equipment otherwise they will be eradicated.

Nearby Arkhanhel's'ke looks like it may be in a similar situation, as well. For better or worse, I find myself hoping for a swift surrender and prisoner exchange.

There are some signs that Russia may be starting to pull out of Kherson Oblast in general, for that matter, but nothing I would count as solid at the moment.

To poke elsewhere -

NEW from Senior U.S. Defense Official on the war in #Ukraine:

Russia has committed nearly 85% of its military to the war in Ukraine… It has removed military coverage from other areas on their border and around the world.

Russia's weakening itself even more than expected?

As for the grain agreement, it covers shipping, apparently. I find myself mildly curious if Russia's attack on the grain silos is actually an official violation of their agreement or if it "merely" violates the spirit of the agreement.

Russia did.

If Russia tell you something ask just one question, are they telling me lies, the answer is always yes.

Yup, remember they still claim that they didn't shoot down MH17. Despite initial boasts on social media that they had shot down a plane at that time.

They deny the Sailsbury novichok attack.

Even in February they said they would not invade Ukraine
