Split Thread Akron police shoot unarmed man 60 times

Silliness. You want someone who started chase, who officers believed fired a gun, someone wearing a ski mask in the summer... to be out at large?

Yea wearing ski masks in summer is enough reason to kill anyone, just talk to the cops who arrested Elijah McClain. Wearing a ski mask in summer is enough for the police to kill anyone.

It's as if neither one of you can read. We're talking about the foot chase. Even cops in the US, as I noted, will back off from high-speed car chases. Walker was apparently involved in a car chase the previous night in an adjacent town, and the police voluntarily gave up.

Funny you think that when the police were chasing him for some unspecified vehicular violation. They are not even clear as to why they started this whole thing.

They claimed to have found a spent casing "consistent with the handgun recovered" "in the area" of where they say they saw the flash occur. There is also traffic cam footage of a flash.

Which sounds pretty questionable of it being a gunshot the flashes just are not usually all that visible.

It's kind of amazing that Europeans on this board will say, "Man, I couldn't stand living in America. You never know when you'll get shot," but then turn around and say police officers are rank cowards because they're afraid of getting shot.

What next making cops articulate a constitutional reason why they were stopping him, outrageous!

Is the claim that he fired a shot in the car, retrieved the casing and threw it out of the vehicle, then unloaded the gun all while driving?

found a case 'in the area' indeed.

I never said he was wielding a gun when he was shot. I'll quote myself: "He was believed to have a weapon that he fired earlier. You don't think it's a reasonable assumption that he could have still been armed?"

And shame on Oedipus for ******* his mother. Anyone else would've recognized their baby cave.

We famously do not know the circumstances. I was making a conditional statement.

You're retconning. Which posts? Where were people critically remarking on the car chase? It doesn't come up until page 5. In terms of events, the discussion has been about cops pursuing Walker on foot and shooting an unarmed man 60 times.

For the sake of argument, let's say Walker leads cops on a slow-speed chase, fires out the window, runs, gets shot sixty times, and doesn't have a weapon. What changes? It's all hunky-dory?

Er, you yourself posted about the chase beginning in a vehicle in the 4th post on the first page. Sir drinks-a-lot comments in post 14. That this started out as a car chase was known from the very beginning.

And no, Walker being shot 60 times less than 10 seconds after exiting his vehicle, with the namby pampy "one officer attempted to use a taser" claim to make it seem they didn't immediately go for lethal force, is not hunky-dory.

It's pure speculation, but commenters seem to think Walker wasn't very well trained in the use of his gun. He may well have ejected the magazine, then shot the gun out the window just so that he had an unloaded gun in order to prevent cops freaking out and shooting him some 60 times for having a gun...

Well, now you explain it that looks perfectly reasonable.

I am just reminded of how the police claimed John Crawford III was pointing the BB gun he was buying at walmart at people and that is why they had to kill him, until the video from walmart came out and did not show any of that.

I've been able to locate a news source that shows the claimed "flash" from Walker's gun. Frankly it appears to be a reflection of a light to me, given that it starts at the headlight and continues to just past the driver's door.

They say there is footage that 2 officers had tasers out, and fired them, but at least one of those officers had a taser in one hand and his handgun in the other as he attempted to use the taser.

The article also talks about at least one officer emptying his clip and then reloading to continue shooting while Walker was already on the ground.

They don't even know if Walker was the driver the previous night that had escaped, as the first driver was reported as a white male by the officer giving chase.

"Lets sprinkle some crack on him and get out of here." - Dave Chappelle

I know nothing will happen but some of these cops need to be fired.

If one shot at him when Walker was down, no matter what else transpired, he should be going down for murder, full stop.

Multiple shot at him while he was on the ground is the impression I got from Wareyin's article.

"This is absolutely unreasonable," said DiCello, who described Walker's body "twitching and moving with every shot that landed as it was on the ground. The shots continued after he was on the ground."

There is a lot in that article. It's a bit of a read but it about sums up what we know so far pretty well.

ETA: Hell, one of them went through an entire clip, and reloaded. Those police were going to make sure Walker was dead. There was no other option for them. He was going in a bodybag.

Posting "about the chase" is not the same as "critically remarking on the car chase." You're only demonstrating my point: As far as the thread was concerned, the chase reflected poorly on Walker. Police criticism was understandably focused on the excessive number of bullets put into Walker.

That's nice when you paper over the fired a gun part.

And the police should be clear on why they wanted to pull him over. When they refuse to do so, it arouses suspicions (not unlike when a driver refuses to pull over, it arouses suspicions).

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2017_Turku_attack

When police confronted Bouanane stabbing a victim at street address Brahenkatu 14 near Puutori, he ignored verbal orders and was immobilised with a single shot to the thigh and a taser at 16:05. He was given first aid and taken into custody.

This was a chaotic and life threatening situation on the streets of Turku and the police force reacted quickly, coolly and calmly. And this wretched specimen was denied his "glorious" martyrhood and instead was revealed to be a pathetic head case in a court of law.

This is an apples to oranges case. The suspect here had a knife (such that bystanders confronted him, which would have been less likely than if he had a gun). It sounds like the police responded appropriately to the daytime attack. I also don't buy into the "center-mass" line from firearm apologists. There are plenty of examples from law enforcement in other countries shooting to wound.

You seem to be rather blinded about the case and the comments on it, if you think that the car chase was unremarkable up until, as you put it, it was "discovered" 3 days into this discussion.

It was obviously known, and although the "excessive number of bullets" was the immediate cause of death, the decision of police to begin a high speed (highway) chase when they still can't even say why reflects poorly on police far more than Walker. We civilians don't train for these situations, we don't have procedures to follow, etc. The cops escalated this situation at every single possible step, until an unarmed man was shot some 60 times. Many of those shots occuring as he lay on the ground already mortally wounded, with police ******* reloading to shoot some more.

Then they handcuffed him, rolled him over, and tried stuffing him in the backseat of a squad car because they didn't know when the ambulance would arrive. As if it ******* mattered.

Without the full video, it's unclear what happened afterward, including how a mortally wounded man was handcuffed and flipped onto his back, according to DiCello.

It's also unclear how officers rendered first aid, detected a pulse and tried to load Walker into a cruiser to get him to the hospital before the ambulance arrived, as the police chief has stated.

I mean, what the actual ****? There's no way he was breathing. Can cops be charged with some form of abusing a corpse?
