Ed India going down the Dictatorship road fast...

It is going ot get heavier since he has probably alientated most of the West with his support for Putin.
 
The government of India and the Chief Ministers of various states under the BJP are currently promoting the movie Kashmir Files a film by avid BJP supporter Vivek Agnihotri. The film basically couches the terrorist killing of 89 Kashmiri Pandits (upper caste Hindu community of Kashmir) and the subsequent evacuation by the then government as genocide against Hindus and betrayal of their homeland by Congress.
What the film does, is ignore a few facts. Over a thousand Kashmiri Muslims were also killed by the terrorists at the same time as the 89 Kashmiri Pandits. It was the BJP governor of Kashmir under a central government that the party allied with, who insisted on the evacuation of the Pandits.
However, the film caters to and reinforces the notion that the Muslims in general are constantly attempting to kill off all Hindus in India and it is only the BJP that can save them. It is quite obvious that the film is only the latest in a long list of propaganda devices that the Modi government is deploying to foment communal tensions and continue their hate based agenda.

I don't. Unlike the Russian army, India can actually afford to buy and upgrade newer Russian military equipment. And they have to keep pace with China. So this isn't really a good time for them to sabotage that relationship. Finland allied with Nazi Germany for a time, and we don't begrudge them that.

You want India to stop being friendly with Russia, to stop buying Russian tanks and planes? Offer them comparable western equipment at comparable prices. But that might annoy China. Better to let India fend for themselves, and then condemn them when they find another port in the storm.

India is already paying a heavy price, for no other crime than being India.

Where the acolytes of the current fascists are concerned, "racial purity" is definitely a thing. This is all part of the current administration's attempts to disenfranchise a huge swathe of the populace. The RSS founders were big fans of Hitler and the final solution.

The whole Point of that Babylon 5 episode is that the super cyborgs the now extinct alien race programmed to destroy their enemies by having them destroy anybody who was not "Pure" did destroy the invaders, but then turned on their creators and exterminted them because they were not "Pure".
As one of the charecters describing what happened said"They were programmed not by science, but by propagands, ideoloty, and religious fanatacism".
Of course I am finding that so much of B5 speaks to what is going on today that it's scary.

I see where this is going and it is going a grim ending: Modi will move to open persecution of Muslims. This will provoke attacks my Muslim extremists, operating out of Pakistan.
The Indian govenment will blame Pakistan, Pakistan will do little or nothing, and after a particularly violent and costly attack, India will launch cross border attacks on what it considers terrorist camps in Pakistan. Pakistant will respond, it will escalate and we will have the first exhange of nuclear weapons in world history.

On the one hand I'd say we've already had many such exchanges during the Cold War. On the other hand, I know exactly what you mean, and hope it never happens.

On the third hand, if it doesn't happen by the end of Modi's administration, will you say you were wrong?

I think you have that completely wrong, and the immediate response by Modi and the BJP says you're wrong, too.

Despite evidence to the contrary, Modi isn't a complete idiot, and is ~70% reliant on imported oil. He's taken pains to woo the islamic countries, apart from Pakistan, and has taken swift action, including sacking the woman who said it. These isn't a major Indian media outlet doing anything other than condemning her, from what I've seen.

Voices supporting her are being closed down, and right now India is bent over a desk in front of the muslin world with its pants down crying "Sorry!" as loud as possible. Attacks against muslins in the provinces will be prosecuted by police, and it will all die down in short order.

Wasn't Modi's ministers. They were BJP party functionaries and one was a spokesperson. Both of them have been "dismissed/suspended" from the party and declared "fringe," which they actually are not. As far as Modi and Shah are concerned these two are just pawns to be used as desired and then discarded. This is just a prelude to instigate further violence against Muslims in India.

Dudalb, you seem to focus more on the possible violent Muslim reaction to this against Hindus. Seems as if you revel in painting Muslims as inherently violent people. Frankly, in India I see the Qatari reaction (Modi's photo superimposed with the imprint of a boot sole pasted on rubbish bins) as becoming fuel for his accolytes to perceive the "insult to Modi" as the fault of the Muslims and use this as an excuse to indulge in further atrocities against Muslims.

No I do not regard Muslim as inherently violent.
But it is foolish to deny Muslim extremist exist, and they have staged attacks in India in the past, and if the presecution of Muslims excalates, you can bet there will be a viiolent response by these groups. The vast majority of Indian Muslims do not want a violent response but they have little control over what the Militants do.
For Heaven's sake, these genuisies staged an attack in France over a freaking cartoon.
I don't like religious extremist of any stripe, and I don't cut any religion, including Islam, slack.
 
The Modi government definitely hates criticism. A recent article IN NYT that praised the performance of one of BJP's primary opposition in India and a later op-ed that highlighted the steady dismantling of democracy in the country by the BJP. This has come as a huge blow to Modi and his coterie, who have created a myth that it is only because of Modi that India is now "seen with respect" in the International community. This myth is supported with either photoshopped or strategically engineered photo opportunities where he is either shown as the centre of attention of fawning International leaders or leading the way for groups of International leaders. There some really hilarious vidoe clips of him sidling up to groups of world leaders, usually European or American, at conferences so his photographer can take carefully framed photographs that seem to show him as being the focus of the discussion.
However, with recent less than flattering reports of the actual ground situation in India, the government has become even more paranoid. This has been marked by even greater disruptive activity by BJP functionaries in non BJP states---eg: the BJP MP from Bangalore, Karnataka leading a violent protest against unemployment in Chattisgarh. The irony being that the state of Chattisgarh has an unemployment rate of .6%, while his own home state of Karnataka has an unemployment rate of 4.3%.
