To the majority of Americans this is repressive tyranny. Even to many who support reform measures, this is a number of bridges too far. Because the US is "speshul", what works in the civilized world cannot possibly be transferable because of the God-sent Second Amendment. Ah, the 2A. To sane observers, cryptic in its brevity, arcane, difficult to parse, of Biblical ambiguity, widely misinterpreted into becoming effectively a suicide pact. A kind of MAD (Mutually Assured Destruction) scenario scaled down.

Charlton Heston, in the sclerotic intractability of his "cold, dead hands" performance at an NRA conference some years back, embodied the religious fervor of American gun insanity.

Excellent.

Comedy but also, sadly, true. Key and Peele Go Back in Time to Stop the 2A:

Matt Gaetz tweeted as a reply to Justin Trudeau announces a national freeze on handgun ownership in Canada.

“The True North strong and (less) free…”

The announcement seems to have upset a lot of US right wingers on social media.

Uvalde police, school district no longer cooperating with Texas probe of shooting

The Uvalde Police Department and the Uvalde Independent School District police force are no longer cooperating with the Texas Department of Public Safety's investigation into the massacre at Robb Elementary School and the state's review of the law enforcement response, multiple law enforcement sources tell ABC News.

A spokesman for Texas DPS, which is running the state's investigations, declined to comment.

The might have the right as citizens to refuse to cooperate with law enforcement, but they should certainly lose their jobs as cops.

If I'm not mistaken every state has a mechanism to de-certify a police force within its jurisdiction. I'm thinking, and hoping, that Uvalde PD, is simply dissolved. The Texas Rangers can take over while a new Uvalde PD is built from the ground up.

These people have way too much disposable income. Putting aside the issue of guns, that much of anything (except maybe books) should be embarrassing. We need more shame. If someone hoarded this many shoes or virgin toys AKA action figures or whatever, Marie Kondo should pay a visit. Instead, people within these subcultures praise -- and envy -- super-collectors. Reason #463 for a progressive consumption tax.

Back to reporting about the stupid door again. It was stated that the teacher actually closed the door and she heard the shooter was on the premises, but it didn't lock. What the reports haven't said is, was that before or after he entered the school? Ultimately I guess it doesn't make any difference, but it's an important part of the story.

Not enough Texas Rangers. You are thinking Texas Highway Patrol. The Rangers have evolved into the investigative arm of the DPS sort of like the FBI.The are not street cops, in the way that the Homidice department of a police force is not what you would want for street patrols.
I think the Uvalde PD should not be dissolved, per se, but there should be mass firings and new people brought in. The Highway Patrol or maybe the County Police forces could take over in the meantime.

I love the implication that if you don't automatically hate all police you are a racist that is made in a couple of theads here.

It feels like several of those people could sell a few of those guns and buy some actual furniture for the insides of their houses.

Also, this photo:

...just feels incredibly sketchy, it looks like one of those clearly photoshopped 3D renders you see on Zillow listings for high-rise condos.

Actually, I think this encouraging.... the more people who have lots and lots of guns... the less people have guns at all....

:D

It's clear that the tide in Texas has turned against the Uvalde police. Even those who usually support the police are screming for blood over this. Their stonewalling this will not work; it will just result in a even bigger probe.
