Cont: Today's Mass Shooting (2)

I kind of disagree. Forced entry in a Hostage Situation is very, very, risky, and IMHO you need a highly trained speciaized unit to do it.But that does excuse the cowardly behavior of the police in Uvalde.

Why does it need 'highly trained specialised units'?

It wasn't a 'hostage situation' It was a murderer murdering children right in front of them.

Press conference underway now. Official in cowboy hat says that after the initial encounter it took time to call in backup, SWAT, hostage negotiators and others.

Usually i could accept this as a valid point, but that the cops just stood around after they got their own kids out argues something more is involved here.

Well, like I say, it is expected for people to be emotional about this stuff.

But the reality is, I don't expect the guy who writes me for speeding to be able to handle this situation. This is a very specialized scenario, and one that very rarely occurs in the tens of millions of police interactions that take place each year.

The benefit of Police to society would be very little if all they did was respond to mass shootings.

What is 'highly specialised' about shooting a man with a gun?
Cops do it all the time.

The job of the Police is to Protect and Serve ... themselves.
The SC made it clear that cops have no obligation to help anyone.

There are good police and there are bad police as in any profession. Who would you want to respond if you heard someone breaking into your house?

Why are we arming them like they're going to be deployed to a combat zone, then?

Agreed. Only specilly trained police units should be allowed Military level weaponary. The whoe routinte of giving cops M 16 who have not been well trained in their use is silly.
A pistol and a shotgun in the trunk of a car should be enough for any cop in his daily duties, If more is required, call in SWAT.

Great! Agreed! So disarm the little weasels and take their police powers away if they can't employ them at game time. Have them wave little "Meter Maids Lives Matter" banners.

On second thought: no. It doesn't matter if they encounter a mass shooter every day. They are trained to do so. Not everything you are trained to do is done every day. But they had 40 minutes or so to try and remember. 40 too many.

The benefit of Police to society would be very little if all they did was respond to mass shootings.

The more I interact with and read about cops, the less I am convinced they are needed for much of anything.

So take away their guns and police powers, full mother ******* stop. If they only have authority to hurt, but no duty to help, **** them.

Line every one of the responding officers who sipped coffee in that parking lot for an hour up against The Wall. It took a couple Border Police who happened to be in the area to actually use those gats and training for what they were intended for. Give them a medal. Or put them opposing the cowards lined up against The Wall.

Jesus H Christ. What is it with you guys? We don't even have the full facts of what happened yet and you are all just so ready to go full bore on your hatred of the police. Give it a rest, will ya?

What I want to know is what SC decision is he talking about???
I share this dislike of the current court but somehow I doubt they made a ruling saying what he thinks they said.

The signs are the situation was mishandled, and a number of the cops on the scene seem not to have done what they should have done, but to use his as a blanket condmenation of police in America is a bitmuch.
And I am still wondering what specific Supreme Court ruling they are talking about

Not any of the cops involved here, they would probably hang around outside until the shooting was over.

They pissed around outside waiting for the big boys to arrive and sort it out for them.

Texas Lt Gov Dan Patrick says our schools should be firetraps.

Texas Lt Gov Dan Patrick on "hardening" schools: "There should be one entrance in and one entrance out in all of our elementary and all of our middle schools. They're small enough to do that. There should be only one way in, and that should be a well protected entrance."

I was responding to a post that had errors in it. There is nothing wrong with this. If you feel so concerned, then you really need to take it up with the moderation team.

For my part, as long as it doesn't go on for too long, I appreciate seeing that sort of information.

No, I don't care exactly what forms people have to fill out, but I do appreciate knowing what can be done, some indicator of the level of effort involved to do it, and enough information to add credibility so that I can feel confident you are providing correct information instead of just shooting your mouth off.

So, don't belabor the point too much. If it were to go on a long time, I would want a thread split, but for the moment, I appreciate the info.

Well, I haven't seen anything here that has made me change my opinion of cops on a large scale. Certainly nothing that would make me want to abolish them, defund them, or disarm them.

There are good cops and bad cops, like any other profession. And we don't know enough about this scenario to demonize these individuals, much less the entire collective Police force of this country.
