No, they were always vile and were against the law at the time - it wasn't retrospective.

It is that she and Epstein had felt immune beforehand. But "I shouldn't be punished severely because I had been getting away with abusing these girls for so long I didn't think it was that bad" isn't a brilliant defence.

A boiling frog doesn't know its being cooked. Maxwell, on the other hand, knew exactly what she was doing right from the get-go, she knew it was wrong, and she knew she would be in for the high jump if it ever came to light.

For mine, it ought to be a case of "mind your fingers - clang" and throw the ******* key away. I hope she gets enough time that she will either die in prison, or come out a very old woman.

Maxwell was found guilty of heinous crimes. And there is no doubt that she was complicit in Epstein's crimes.

She is now due to be sentenced.

Samson believes, with very few exceptions, that all convictions are wrongful, all police are corrupt and everyone who has been sent to jail is innocent.

IMO, he's right about some cases (we agree on a number of them) but wrong about this one. In the case of Ghislaine Maxwell, I have this to say..

1. She was complicit, and a fully active, knowing participant in the crimes of Jeffrey Epstein... before, during and after the fact.

2. Those crimes were truly heinous, and they severely and negatively impacted the lives of many young women and girls. We know about a number of them, and I wonder how many others there are who have never come forward because they are too ashamed, or too frightened, or have moved on and don't wish to revisit those painful experiences, or heaven forbid, there may even be some that have ended their lives because of what they were subjected to by Epstein and Maxwell.

3. She knew perfectly well what she was doing - she knew it was wrong, she knew it was criminal, but she did it anyway.

4. I don't particularly care whether or not she is a danger to anyone now, she has committed those crimes and must be punished, for without punishment there is no deterrence.

She has been found guilty, and how its time for her to pay the price for her criminality with some years in jail, and I hope she gets plenty of them.

I think there is such grotesque misbehavior in America around crimes and perception of who are the victims I think she is a scapegoat.
There are supreme court judges I would hang first.

Mostly hers IMO

Maxwell was not a victim in any of this, she was a perpetrator. She was a privileged, self-entitled elitist who thought she was above the law. She willingly, repeatedly and enthusiastically procured young, vulnerable under-aged women for her boyfriend so that he could commit vile acts of indecency upon them. She KNEW exactly what she was doing, and exactly what her boyfriend was going to do to them. Indeed, she even participated in some of those vile acts herself.

Now, she is a criminal - a convicted child sex trafficker. There is absolutely no doubt whatsoever about this - there was no planted evidence, or false or untruthful testimony by Police and the witnesses against her were solid and unshakeable, despite Maxwell's lawyers attempts at character assassination and victim blaming. Her conviction is fair and just, and if I had my way, she would spend the rest of her life behind bars for what she has done. Unfortunately, that won't happen - I doubt she'll even get ten years, and if that's all she gets, it will be a travesty!

Scheduled to learn her fate later this month, Maxwell faces a maximum of 55 years in prison. Stressing her “humiliating” incarceration in the grim Brooklyn lockup, they are pushing for a term far softer than the 20 years meted out to Epstein.​
I hope she gets at least 15 years

Her team has also highlighted what they cast as her traumatic upbringing under her father, the late newspaper mogul Robert Maxwell. Epstein, they argue, manipulated Maxwell into corralling young girls for his personal pleasure and that her giving nature made it difficult to decline his requests.​
Horse-puckey! She was an adult, she knew exactly what Epstein was doing, and what she was doing; she knew it was criminal, she knew it was morally bereft, but she did it anyway, and lived it up in a fabulous, jet-setting lifestyle as a reward for her scumbaggery

It is all relative to expectations.
I do not for a heartbeat think she would expect approbation for acts of sin replicated at extreme levels by eg
Putin
Trump.
 
I wonder why she was in solitary confinement for 22 months.

I’m no fan, but that seems to border on cruel and unusual unless there was good justification. And if she was that isolated, body cavity searches do seem punitive rather than justified. Assuming everything in the complaints is in fact true.
