Honestly I don't understand all this hand-wringing about nuclear power plants. A single-plant meltdown is not at all like an actual exchange of nuclear weapons. They are not equivalent. Causing the former is not even remotely comparable to initiating the latter.

And I'm pretty sure that causing a meltdown isn't even all that easy to do, if the plant has been properly safetied and shut down. Chernobyl happened because the safety systems were disabled, prior to arranging circumstances to cause the most disastrous possible failure mode. And even that wasn't actually such a world-ender.

By a mad coincidence, I just watched a doco about how the wildlife hijacked Pripyat. It was fascinating.. Wolves, bears, deer and so on. They seem to have no bleeps to give. The wild hogs were interesting. They naturally sequester the radioactive material in non critical areas of their bodies.

Yet it kills people. The doco I watched does not seem to be online, but here is a similar one. 50 minutes of the wild reclaiming Pripyat. Right next door to Chernobyl. The expectation was a nuclear wasteland. Nature was apparently not interested.

I am kind of reminded of Sam Neill in Jurrasic Park saying "Life finds a way". Or was it Goldblum?

...and, as stated before, China can't help much in this department. Both are trying to wean themselves off of Western processors. In one sense, it would be interesting to see the world move toward open-source processors, but in the meantime, the established architectures keep running ahead, and others fall behind.

This applies up and down the chain, too, including microcontrollers, etc.

YouTube is apparently unreachable in Russia. Another good thing I guess since someone here thinks it's desirable for Russians to be deprived of any potential alternative sources of information? Not really.

Several people in Ukraine including a director of a defence contracting firm have been keeping tabs on Russian Grad missile expenditure.
The opinion is that they are near the end of their strategic reserve and will have to procure more on new contracts.
Problem is, there are probable enough component stocks for a few more but 60% of the components in the front end guidance systems and other crucial modules use imported electronics components. None of these are now available as they are on the sanctions list.

The KBM plant in Tula and other factories controlled by longtime Putin allies the Rothenberg brothers are unable to physically fulfil orders for infantry weapons and ammunition.
Weapons that are officially on the books and should be available for delivery to active-duty units are missing and the next production runs will be complete only in three to four months.

Big if it's accurate.

It's not even the designs. They have designs which can work. They aren't good, but they are good enough. The problem is the manufacturing process. Russia doesn't have anything better than 90 nm, which was current 18 years ago in the west. And they don't even have much capacity at 90 nm. They do not have the capability to manufacture their best home-grown designs, and had to outsource to TSMC, which they have now lost access to.

A LOT of military strategist have been saying for years that one thing modern warfare doesn't account for is how quickly you can run out of high quality armament in battle.

It's not like the old days when you can crank out cannon balls or basic artillery shells almost as fast as you can fire them. Modern missiles and bombs are complex, high tech, made of hard to get materials, and built with high tech component.

You almost have to start the war with the understanding that the armaments you have are the armaments you have until the war is over.

The only logical conclusion, which is what they are saying in Russian propaganda, is that the Ukraninan "neo-nazis" must be blowing up their own houses and torching their homes just to blame proud righteous innocent Russian peacekeepers.

This kind of denial is a staple of both genocide denial AND incitement of all kinds: villages are being burned by the hated minority themselves and were being falsely blamed! It's just another outrage against us by them! We're the real victims in all of this, so even if we did burn down their villages it would be okay because it's a just revenge!
