It's even more absurd than that, because carefully managing public perception is as much a part of a actor's job as anything else. There's a whole thriving industry of journalism (if you can call it that) dedicated to covering the off-screen lives of major actors.

Being generally "likeable" is absolutely a relevant job requirement for working on Disney's massively expensive and popular Star Wars IP. Being a right wing conspiracy crank who's on the express lane to "naming the Jew" is obviously a firing offense. The best paid actors aren't making the big bucks solely on their ability to act. Everyone understands this.

The parasocial relationship between actors and the audience is absolutely a part of the job, especially when you deal with a IP with such a devoted and deranged fanbase.

Your pool cleaner analogy is still correct, but it doesn't even need to apply in this case where not being an inflammatory contrarian is absolutely a job expectation for Carano, which Disney made explicit before firing her.

That the case I could make for you using disrespectful terms would have similar strength to the case the students have made for Kilborn using disrespectful terms right down to the circumstances (a contextual quotation of someone else using disrespectful terms).

Still don't see a point at all...Anywhere you explicitly use the words "******" and "bitch" you could also say "Racial slurs and insults were uttered". But the guy chose the former and here we are.
