Does Matter Really Exist?

Iacchus,

I have been reading your posts for a while and I wanted to know if the following sums up your beliefs:

''Something exists, but I make no judgement on what it is.''

Is that about the just of it?

If I am capable of standing outside of time and space, as I suggest consciousness does, yes I can.

Does your consciousness lack duration, then? How do you relate to the world? How do you manage to transmit ideas to the real world from your domain of timelessness? Please explain in coherent sentences, preferably using words with a generally agreed vernacular meaning, how consciousness occurs independently of time.

No, I believe that there is a Creator and, that this is the origin of the conscious grid upon which the temporal plane called the material Universe has manifested itself.

Congratulations, Pae! I would have bet that you would not get a straight answer--and I would have lost. A mere 27 posts, and you have achieved what very few have ever managed before!

Thank you for your response.

How did you arrive at these beliefs?

Beginner's luck.

That's because it's been in the works all this time, and this is the first chance I've really had to speak of it in this sense.

Iacchus said:
Only consciousness is capable of observing the passage of time and space ...

How did you reach that conclusion ?

In order for that creator to be the origin of such a thing, such a thing must exist and be defined, right ? Conscious grid ? You are yet to show that it exists, so why try to explain its origin ?

Only consciousness is capable of observing the passage of time and space ... in a correlative form, that is.

"Correlative form" makes no sense to me. And does the capability of observing make a person immune to the phenomenon observed?

No, in fact it's very much like you folks saying God isn't necessary because it doesn't add anything to your world view.
While I am an agnostic, I'm in agreement with Hawking that God can only exist outside the universe. This means that nothing in quantifyable nature, or reasonable observation or assumption, implies God's presence, and you are either trying to antagonize others or bump your post count up. It is as simple as that. The reason I'm an agnostic is simply because the idea of God intervening in world affairs and in people's lives or existing as an implication of nature, is an affront to developing true morality, self-effort, and dignity, which so many ascetics aspire to. So if there is any meaningful intention on God's part, this is the only one I'm willing to entertain wholeheartedly.

If God exists, everything exists within God's domain. Which is to say, He's perfectly capable of standing outside of, as well as within, those things that exist in His domain. Not to say that I'm refuting Hawking's claim, because I'm not. I'm speaking more in terms of the principle of induction.

If, in fact we all have a spirit or, a soul which, is capable of living on after death, then yes, we do have the means by which to contemplate the presence of God.

And in both cases, If not, then no. And the evidence thus far does not support the existence of either.

Sentience, gives us the ability to reason about those things that exist within and, on the outside of nature. Otherwise, you or I wouldn't be able to make a statement such as this.
