Seems as though the only thing US intelligence got wrong is they assumed the Russian Military was competent;they have become a laughing stock among other militaries. That their forntline troops are running out of ammo, gas, and food is proof of their stupidity.

Well if their budget is similar to the UK's but from a far smaller economy, AND they have lots of fancy homegrown weapons systems that look great on paper, I guess corners have to be cut elsewhere.

And logistics is something that is unimpressive, especially to leaders who are obsessed with headline grabbing wunderwaffe like hypersonic missiles, and the SU57, developed wiout financial support from other countries.

Truth to be told, Soviet Russia probably was already a kleptocracy, and things went downhill extremely fast under Yelzin in terms of corruption, nepotism, cronyism etc, and alcoholism and life expectancy. Putin inherited that. Life expectancy for males had increased by more than 9 years under Putin from 2000 to 2019 (and then went South during the Corona pandemic).

Ukraine's military has just given an update on Sunday's fighting.

Writing on Facebook, the general staff of Ukraine's armed forces described Sunday as "a difficult time" for the military, saying Russian troops "continue shelling in almost all directions".

Latest reports suggest Russian troops have taken Berdyansk, a southern port, but earlier Ukraine said it had fought back an attack on the country's second biggest city, Kharkiv.

Boris Johnson has accused Russian news channel RT of "peddling" material that is "doing a lot of damage to the truth".

The UK prime minister's comments come after the EU today banned RT, formerly known as Russia Today, and Sputnik.

Johnson called for Ofcom to look at whether it is "infringing the rules of this country".

But the prime minister made it clear that the decision should be left to the independent body to decide.

When it was put to him that it sounded like he would ban it if he had the power to do so, Johnson said: "Yes but the difference between us and Russia is that the power is not with me, and that's the right thing.

"And that, you know, is partly what we're fighting for."

An Ofcom spokesman said: "Given the seriousness of the Ukraine crisis, we will examine complaints about any broadcaster's news coverage of this issue as a priority."

I suppose that your last sentence is true. In this case, Nazi crimes probably play a role.

German-speaking people do not seem to be requesting to join Germany, I have never seen a protest (for example) to this end.

Boris Johnson announces any Ukrainian settled in the UK will be allowed 'immediate' family members fleeing the war to join them.

But stops short of saying 'any' family members could come, which was under discussion earlier.

Why do we have to be dragged kicking and screaming, inch by inch, towards doing the right thing that our allies are already doing?
