Seeing too many initial things I thought accurate turn out to be untrue. Going to change my outlook and assume anything currently trending is propaganda in some form or half truths.

For better or worse, nigh all of us are simply onlookers, with all that that entails.

Ukraine's in a bad position and it's fairly certainly just going to get worse for a while longer. Russia's still got a large military advantage and looks to be about to start employing much more brutal force. Ukraine's resisting valiantly, but one way or another, they're already becoming a bit of a wreck and it's just going to keep getting worse before it will have pretty much any chance of getting better, especially if the Russians have indeed given the order to taken Kiev at any cost by Monday.

Already 100 000 or so Ukranian refugees. Makes me wonder whether that was Putin's plan all along.

Undermining the unity in the European Union is definitely on his wishlist. Various refugee/migrant crises have shown that immigration is controversial issue for which the EU has not yet come up with a unified solution. If anything can split up the EU, that might be it.

We've already seen the attempt of getting refugees into Poland from Belarus. Poland managed to beat most of them back. God only knows how these poor people are doing stuck in Belarus.

Poland seems more welcoming to refugees from Ukraine than from the Middle East, but they may not be able to welcome them all. It remains to be seen how eager other EU countries will be to help Poland with their refugee problem when it refused to help other countries.

Countries in Western Europe have anti-immigration parties that are also against immigration from Eastern Europe, and which have accepted large Russian donations. Seems unlikely those parties are going to accept refugees from Ukraine.

But as you mentioned, the anti immigration parties are mostly against muslim refugees fleeing the various civil wars left over by the war on terror. They also oppose labour migration for 'taking our jobs' but Brexit has shown that stopping that migration does not suddenly make those jobs attractive to locals. Poland and Hungary are especially in the grip of nationalist parties seeking to 'keep out values' and thus against having to help with refugees from the middle east.

But this is different. Poland and Hungary remember the Russian kindness very well and see themselves next on the agenda if they were not part of the EU. Ukrainians share their values and apart from the extreme populist parties (left and right) everyone opposes this war of agression and at the moment seems willing to take an economic hit in order to oppose Putin.

Oh,k the Russians will overcome by sheer force of numbers, but then the Insurgensy will start.supported by Nato. It will make what happened in Afghanistand to the Russians look mild in comparasion.
And If you think Putin will stop with Ukraine, you have not been paying attention.
ANd that is the danger, everyplace else on his to do list is a NATO member.
I would have said a couple of weeks ago he would never attack a NATO country, now I am not so sure.

I think part of that might have been the reason why they were apprehensive to do it. In some ways we're at a point where the power of the dollar is starting to wane.

As part of a coordinated human trafficking operation undertaken by Minsk in order to enact some kind of "revenge" after the EU was angry over a series of incidents including hijacking a flight in order to arrest a journalist.



Probably worse than they could be considering back in August Belarus refused to allow Poland to provide humanitarian aid for these people in Belarus. My view on this is that Minsk invited these people into their country, therefore it's Minsk's responsibility to these people since their plan to illegally smuggle them into Poland and Lithuania has failed.

The Russian delegation has reportedly arrived in Belarus for talks with the Ukrainians, presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters, according to Russia news agency RIA Novosti.

According to him, the delegation included representatives of the ministry of foreign affairs, the ministry of defence and other departments, including the presidential administration.

“We will be ready to start these negotiations in Gomel,” the spokesman said.

The Belarusian foreign ministry said it had prepared everything necessary for the meeting and were now engaged in resolving protocol issues.
