This war and suffering could have easily been avoided if Biden Admin/NATO had simply acknowledged Russia’s legitimate security concerns regarding Ukraine’s becoming a member of NATO, which would mean US/NATO forces right on Russia’s border

Interesting that people of a certain age have a hard time just calling it Ukraine instead of "The Ukraine". It just seems to naturally fit, like The Outback, or The Gulag. I don't know how it ever got started, or why it changed, but I often hear the older newscasters referring to "The Ukraine".

It should go without saying that the least the US and EU could do is open their doors to any Ukrainian refugee who wants to escape, with the usual caveats barring any known neo-nazi or terrorist types.

Given the current state of xenophobia in the US, I'm not optimistic that this will happen.

Ukrainians can enter Schengen without a visa, so they will have no trouble getting into EU.

I think it depends on whether Putin can convince NATO members that he's ready and willing to go nuclear. If so, he's in the drivers seat.

Already done. Biden signaled a week or so ago that a "minor incursion" would be tolerated. VP Harris just the other day flew to Europe to say in so many words that the US was absolutely not interested in having a war in Europe right now. Putin was probably signing off on the invasion orders before Air Force II was even back in the air.

I think that's broadly true across Western Europe as well - particularly in the UK.

The difference in these countries is that the opposition are being critical of governments for not acting swiftly or decisively enough. That contrasts to the GOP and the right wing media in the US who appear to be actively cheering Putin and Russia on.

Make it personal for Putin and his friends. There was enough information in the Panama papers to make it clear that he had been putting money in banks outside Russia. Go after any assets they have. Either confiscate them or make them disappear.

Any travel to a country not allied with Russia should get those officials detained.

Cut off communications and get real about restricting anything going into Russia that isn't food. That one will be a problem since China just doesn't care.

China might not be entirely happy to become Russia's only heavyweight friend in the near future but post-invasion sanctions may leave Russia very much beholden to any large country prepared to support and supply them, and Russia will be very much the junior partner in that relationship. So from China's point of view they can probably just consider it's an ill wind that blows nobody any good.

In the Russian parallel universe Ukraine is ruled by a Nazi-fascist military junta that hates Russians (it has committed genocide against them for over 8 years, Russians themselves are naturally incapable of committing any wrong). It is also under control of NATO, and depending on how far down the rabbit hole you fall, probably controlled by the Jews or reptilian aliens.

While they have a conspicuous hiatus while these events are occurring, i'm sure it won't be too long until some of the missionaries return to propagate their faith.

Natural Gas is also used for power. Yes, there are other dependencies, but lowering a dependency is still lowering it.
