Don’t Google “furries”.
(ETA: a quick Google of “Maus nudity” does, however, gives a good example.)
I’ve been working through some of the banned books my culture warrior social media “friends” have been clutching their pearls about. “New Kid” is a graphic novel about a black kid that goes to a high-end private school. I saw nothing inappropriate about it for, I don’t know, 4th grade and older, unless you are offended by black people having a perspective and opinions about everyday racism.
“Gender Queer”, which my CW friend advertised as pushing pornography on kids, is another graphic novel memoir and I can’t imagine my CW friend actually ever read the thing. There is one bit of actual nudity, at an OBGYN appointment, and it is a fairly horrific depiction of the author’s physical pain. There is another scene where the author is having sex with a girlfriend, involving a strap-on. Out of context, this is clearly the scene being described as pornography. In context, it is a semi-traumatic experience for the author and not at all sexy. I’d say it’s appropriate for middle school students and older.
