There is a process to get into office. Once in office, they receive an income by statute. The office has certain powers, such as voting on legislation. There is no "paid for X"

They take an oath to protect and defend both the Constitution and the citizens. They also represent the citizens of their district.
 
Because this looks like it would be an appropriate thread for this and the last four pages don't seem to have referenced these things...

First one -

Newt Gingrich said this morning that people serving on the J6 Committee are going to go to jail if Republicans take over Congress after the next election.

Brazen abuses of power and nationally aired promises that the Republicans will engage in even more serious abuses of power if they become able to do so by prominent Republicans, on top of everything else? I keep hoping that the GOP political establishment will do something to redeem themselves, but my patience has worn painfully thin.

Also, has the plan to seize voting machines and put Powell in charge of "investigating" them for fraud been mentioned?

"They are going to go to jail" has been the Republican mantra since before Bengahzi - and it never happens.
Q and Trump fans have been promised to see most top Democrats arrested and executed, and nothing happen.

This is pure gaslighting, a desperate effort to distract from the fact that each day more of the Republican base present at Jan 6th gets arrested and sentenced.

Oaths don't do anything. One can violate an oath and it doesn't trigger anything. It is just noise.

Sorry, but Bob's got a point (although I would also not vote for him). The law doesn't dictate any consequences for violation of the oath of office, therefore in a technical legal sense it's meaningless. There is no mechanism to enforce it. You're just supposed to feel bad if you don't keep it, but politicians as a class aren't known for feeling bad about what they do.

Yeah except it's completely different because one side is actually guilty of crimes, but that's a detail that doesn't matter.

I really don't understand how being this wrong all the time doesn't wear people out.

Correct the Charge would be Inciting a Seditious Conspiracy In violation and Contrary to his Oath of office!

No he's claiming that he can hijack the discussion by claiming they are equivalent, making us argue about that for 10 pages, just to start right back where we were.
