A partisan is "a strong supporter of a party, cause, or person."
Partisanship politically means that a representative puts loyalty to their party above their position on a specific issue.

All I know is, if I'm paid $174k + perks to represent my party at large, I'm damn sure going to act like it.
They're not paid to represent their party. They are paid to do what is best for the United States.
For me, it wouldn't even take a mythical paragon of impartiality to be acceptable, just someone that hits the low bar of "isn't likely to defend Trump no matter what".
