The Jan. 6 Investigation

Well, yeah. It's pretty implausible that they didn't realize the violent potential.

I'm sure throwing more money at them will make them care about these issues more though

At what point do we entertain the idea that it was purposefully allowed to happen? Is there anything to suggest such a thing? It sounds somewhat plausible.

Is this angle being investigated by the committee? I know it has been tossed around as a CT, of course.

Check what the Sargeant at arms in the Senate stated, they wanted the Guard on Standby because Mitch McCoverup didn't want to Embarrass the Insurrectionist Republicans in the house and Senate, and Pelosi probably didn't think even the Republicans were that stupid to try a coup attempt on National TV.

Purposefully allowed to happen - to help the coup?
Absolutely.

After all, law enforcement officers got charged for helping rioters covering up their acts on the day.

But you are thinking of "entrapment" - absolutely not. This was Trump's FBI and DOJ appointees.

I mean again we're just going to pretend that rioters weren't taking selfies with cops inside the Capital on that day?

It seems that Jenna Ellis has so far avoided much notice for her part in the madness. Perhaps this will change now.

Prior to Jan 6 2020, what was the procedure for visiting the Capitol building?

Did you mean Jan 6 2021?

Yes, I believe pro-Trump law enforcement purposefully allowing the riot to occur is somewhat plausible. Perhaps more than somewhat.

As a less sarcastic answer, I think we should get whatever answers the information leads us to.

I would consider a Democrat scheme to let it happen in order to embarrass or incriminate Trump and Republicans to be highly unlikely. The motive is unconvincing. Most people sympathetic to the incoming Biden administration or opposed to Trump's presidency were quite sincerely worried that sufficient disruption that day would create an opportunity to challenge the results. It doesn't make a lot of sense to shake things up at a key procedural step when your side won. So in this I am not relying on the integrity of Trump's opponents but on their sense of self-interest.

So it would take significantly compelling evidence to get me to believe this happened despite all sense.

There is plenty of evidence that Republicans allowed this to happen though, and in many different ways that have already been discussed here.

Yes they did then try to place blame on the speaker for it. Mitch McConnell clearly didn't want to Embarrass Republicans voting against certification with a large National Guard Presence.

Oops, yes, 2021.

Thanks.

To visit the office of a senator or congress critter you just had to make an appointment (though most of those offices are in the Rayburn building connected by a tunnel). You could also contact your member of Congress or one of your two senators and get the tour. Most of the members have interns or staffers who give the Capitol tour. You could also do a self-guided tour sometimes just by waiting in line (though if there were events happening in the Rotunda you could get cancelled). There are galleries where you could watch the proceedings but I believe those were by reservation.

Visitors had to pass through security screening, pretty much like what happens at the airport.
