"Black lives shouldn't matter less" doesn't roll off the tongue as smoothly as "black lives matter". I imagine those who created the slogan might have considered something else if they'd anticipated how it would be twisted. But those doing the twisting would have found some other way to avoid talking about the effects of racism.

This^^^

Perhaps "Black Lives Also Matter" or as Delvo suggested, "Black Lives Matter Too", would have been a better term - it would have ripped the rug right out from under the white privilege "All Lives Matter" retort by inherently acknowledging that fact, giving them nowhere to go.

I have a "no step on snek" sticker on my PC at home. I usually just buy the stuff that mocks them because in NoDak they're generally too dumb to realize you're making fun of them.

The idea being that the people pretending that "black lives matter" is somehow denying value to non-black lives so that they can be outraged, and thereby ignore the racism being called out, would simply find some other excuse to be outraged if the wording of the slogan was different.

anyway, there’s really not a way to handle something like that at all, it’s just a grade school level insult. it’s like when Bush dodged that shoe. it’s freedom of speech but having nothing valuable to say. Congratulations, you used words. you can’t really send this guy to detention or anything, and even he’s embarrassed for himself. I guess that’s enough.

It’s a bit of a system shock to discover that what you thought was a triggering and clever insult was actually pretty lame and only triggered people into thinking he is an idiot. A ridiculous backtracking follow up is only helping to confirm that.
