NPR’s Fresh Air had an interview with a reporter who’s been investigating the activities of the Republicans post-Jan. 6. His observation is that they are trying to reinforce their attempts to use state legislatures to refuse to certify loosing elections and to push through legislation that would allow partisan review of election results.
As well as ongoing gerrymandering efforts which in some cases are quite blatant.. (the Justice Department is suing Texas, for instance…)

And now a powerpoint presentation of the coup plans has been discovered.

But ya.. it wasn't a coup attempt....
 
Josh Hawley is highly intelligent, extremely well educated, in short a prime example of 'The Elite' he ran successfully against in all his campaigns.
He knew exactly what the Plan was and how he could help make it happen, and he decided to stick with the Plan even after the attack on the Capitol. He knew exactly that it was a Coup Attempt, and he did all he could to make it work.

That is the kind of person Republicans are shielding when they claim that it wasn't a Coup - because they hope that next time he succeeds.

Step one was for Congress to be briefed on foreign interference in the election.

Let's stop there: how did that briefing go? If the answer is "mumble mumble POWERPOINT MAN!", then this powerpoint was a napkin sketch spitballing that no one even passed around, much less acted on. The Willard crew was not even cut in on it, btw, according to the Guardian.

Absolutely. Because I was contracted to do a job for people who were counting on me to get done. My word means something, unlike posters who repeatedly lie, as you have been called out for many times on this issue.

eta: btw, google ad hominem when you get the chance. Do you dispute my paraphrasing of The Guardian's reporting?

I dismiss pretty much anything you have to say on this subject because of how face-plantingly wrong you've been about it (like you were here and here), and I think it's important other posters know as well in case someone accidentally takes something you post seriously.

(For any other posters not clear on this, I invite them to peruse the thread I linked and take a look at what Thermal was posting while the coup was taking place.)

But please, continue lecturing us about how we're overreacting, with that unique blend of hostile arrogance and complete lack of self-awareness.

I just looked at the two reposts you linked to. Do tell: what was I wrong about? That Trump was a sniveling coward, and this was his last blast of the clown show before he slithered away (the first one)?

(Hint: that's exactly what happened.)

Or the second, where I said it was a Dildo Storm of nitwits, in for an unpleasant acquaintance with our legal system?

(Another hint: that's exactly what happened).

Let's compare to your response, where you were either doing #1 or #3 in your pants when you say:

I'm quite content to let people read our respective posts in that thread and make their own judgments about which of us was making more accurate assessments of the events as they unfolded.

On a completely unrelated note, there seems to be an interesting parallel between the Right's attempt to whitewash the events of January 6th and the attempts of no-nothing blowhards to downplay how badly they got it wrong when they were insisting none of this was a big deal.

Answer your own question. What did they do? Trashed the joint. Then what? Went home, and Congress went back to work. The mob was not shot or arrested. They were not encumbered at all, and many of the silly **** wits still aren't, and roamed the streets all year.

Goals have steps taken to achieve them. A football team wants to get the ball across the goal line. If they just attack the other team on the bench, that does not accomplish, or even take steps towards, that goal. It's just mayhem, because that's what violent mobs do.

I don't believe that anyone here is so stupid as to not understand what I am saying. What the J6ers did should have them locked up for years, and no pleas accepted. They interfered with our electoral process, and trashed the Seat of Democracy. That's unforgivable, and profoundly unAmerican. But it's not a coup, simply by definition.

Omg. There was a Powerpoint related to suspected election meddling? Lord. Now we finally see how masterfully planned the 1/6 "attack" was, and the complex command and control structure the commandos fell under. Or something.
