The Jan. 6 Investigation

"They have no procedural way to overturn the election" would mean something if they cared about procedure and weren't just going to go "Let's all agree that with a base concept that denies reality."

It's hard for me to believe people don't see this coming.

The constitution is not explicit as to how states choose electors. There are just a ton of ways a state with a GOP government likely to go democrat can manipulate things, and with a Supreme Court full of pretextual originalists, well...

They had a bunch of unprepared fools trying to work all this out on the fly last time. There is a ton more planning going on right now and more and more moderates are leaving the GOP.

Again because our "Failsafes" and "Checks and Balances" never accounted for trolls who want to sink the whole ship and go down with it just to kill the Captain.

I reserve a particular oprobrium for the USA due to its erstwhile leadership role on the world stage. A populace that has embraced an unwarranted, jingoistic "We're number one!" mantle. A nation that has embraced toxic capitalism that screws over all but the plutocrats. A basket of lemmming-like deplorables running off a cliff at the behest of conspiracy theory peddlers. A safe space for murderous gun nuts. A collection of anti-science, tinfoil hat wearers. A modern Taliban in the form or Christian theocrats. A passel of cowards that spend more on a military than.the next 10 or 15 nations combined. A pack.of selfish fools that fail to realize that socialism is a force for good.

The good ol' US and A is in decline, and the rest of us will suffer for it. God damn you all.

Meanwhile Mr Putin is ramping up his sabre rattling and Mr Xi Jinping wants to assimilate everyone ethnically Chinese into Greater China.

I'm with Trebuchet on his take.

The highlighted - made me think of the Jeff Daniels speech from "Newsroom". I think he said it was more than the next 26 nations combined, and 25 are our allies.

Take a look at it - it's not all terrible. Or great. But it could be.

My goodness, Lurch. Does your disdain extend to those of us who hate Trump and think his cult followers are idiots? Does it include those of us who recognize that democratic socialism isn't "OMG! HEATHEN COMMUNISM!"? What about those of us who would like to see much more strict gun laws? I don't own one and won't have one in my house. Does it extend to us non- Christians or Christians who aren't theocrats? How about those of us who aren't conspiracy, anti-science, tin-foil hat wearers?

What do you think Russia or China would do if we didn't have a military as well-equipped and powerful as we do? You might want to reconsider your disdain for it.

A slew of complaints about the treatment of jailed defendants in the Jan. 6 storming of the Capitol appears to have triggered a review that led to about 400 federal prisoners being transferred out of the D.C. Central Detention Facility. But those accused of participating in the Capitol riot are not among them.

The U.S. Marshals Service announced on Tuesday that it had conducted an “unannounced inspection” of District of Columbia Department of Corrections facilities two weeks ago and determined that one of the complexes — the main jail — did not meet federal standards

Feds find that the general population lockup did not meet standards. The special section that the J6 CHUDs are being held in was apparently acceptable, so none of them are being relocated.

Hey, everybody, just get off Lurch's back. You can plainly see that he's a normal, healthy Canadium with normal, healthy Canadium feelings about the Goddamn States of America.

See my location? I live closer to Canadia than most of you will ever get. I hear that faint little Camadiang voice from across the cold waters of the Troit River. It cries out for recognition -- yes, and for existential acknowledgement -- of Your Neighbor to the North! Of its muskeg and granite! Its burning forests! Its tar sands and offshore fisheries treaties! Its Quebec! Its pronunciation of "out!"

Need I go on? Of course not. A land that nurtures Lurch (that stoot fellow!) needs no defense from me!

Okay, at this point Canadia lies due south from the US, but that's a cartographic trifle due entirey to 18th century English weakness. Eh? Damn raight.

Sniff. Finally someone who understands!

I'm just not sure what.

Scott Fairlamb has become the first U.S. Capitol rioter to be sentenced for violence against law enforcement, receiving a prison term of 41 months. The New Jersey ex-MMA fighter, who punched a Capitol cop in the face, pleaded guilty to assaulting a police officer and obstructing an official proceeding. His sentence, three months shorter than the one federal prosecutors had sought, is the longest received by a rioter yet.

US Justice Dept has announced arrest of Gregory Nix, 52, of Alabama in US Capitol riot. Feds allege Nix struck police with a flagpole and attempted to smash open glass in Capitol doorway

Some of our more conservative members are going to be so disappointed with this felony conviction and another one on the horizon. At least Fairlamb, and maybe Nix, won't be voting in 2022.

I really hope this guy's fine is equal to the cost to repair the damage he caused. I'm sick of seeing their kind get a $500 fine when they caused millions of dollars in damage.

He should have been shot, but I'm glad that a judge yesterday sentenced someone to 41 months for punching a police officer followed by three years of supervised release. A violent felony means you can't own a gun for life (our one useful and effective national gun control law). These morons are all gun nuts and will probably attempt to acquire guns through ghost purchases. That will give the government the excuse it needs to round them up preemptively before the next insurrection.

Sorry to disappoint you but -

Fairlamb has raised over $30,000 in an online fundraiser since his arrest.

Prosecutors said Fairlamb should not be able to “capitalize” off his role in the attack and asked the judge to impose a fine, though Lamberth did not assess a fine.

Don't you think you are being a bit presumptuous calling this guy a gun nut? Oh wait, never mind.
