In my view that is off by 40 years. I would suggest the rise of Nixon in 1968 was more of starting point.

Yeah but at least with Nixon, republican congress-critters were willing to show him the door when his corruption couldn't be ignored.

And even as recently as Clinton, there were a larger number of swing states (although I think it was while Clinton was president that the republicans really started to drive off a cliff.)
 
Every time since Nixon that a Democrat got into power and didn't immediately turn the country into a socialist godless heathen hellscape it broke the Republicans more and more each time.

The black Democrat doing it broke them to the point of them never coming back.

Nixon's disgrace put a hold on it, which was rewarded with two Reagan terms and one of Bush the Elder. Bush's fall after one term took the Old School approach with it, and so began the ascendency of Karl Rove (an old Nixon hand) and Newt Gingrich (a scumbag for all seasons). From there it was a straight course to the crash site in 2016.

Interesting perspective. You may be right about the hold.

Reagan seems to be the one that made it party first - his attitude was you never criticize another Republican. The ruthlessness came with Rove and Gingrich, but was a continuation of the "party first" doctrine.

The Hood Culture Myth In the 1990s early 2000, played a part in the rise of White Supremacist among Law enforcement personnel. Beginning in 1994- though 2003.
That's from my conversations with Law enforcement relatives of mine,
They believed a badge was a target for the Gangs in the Hood and for haters, that was magnified by 9/11/2001.
You guys think I am nut but you don't understand my Information comes from personal experience.

At the root of it all, I think, is the spectre of Inexorable Demographic Decline which has been haunting the Republicans since the rock 'n' roll years. They couldn't seem to make progress in the minorities vote, the youth vote, or the female vote, while the Democrats did. JFK seemed to personify it, as later did the Clintons and then Obama. Absorbing the Southern Democrats was a one-time reprieve, but that was a declining constituency itself. Policies can't solve the problem - Republican philosophy is the problem. Bush the Elder tried to change that and was crushed as a result. The solution, then, is to crush democracy itself. Demographics mean nothing after that.

Absolutely. If this is all a big 'nothing burger' then why are they fighting it so hard and why would they want to know what the committee is finding out? It's all reminiscent of Trump fighting so hard to keep his tax records secret and doing everything he could to obstruct the Mueller Report, etc. The Trump Admin. was a corrupt ****show and they know it.

Maybe they're trying the "lets get out ahead of it" game plan? They're probably thinking that if they expose the information ahead of the commission then it won't look as bad? That's the only thing I can really think they'd gain. Have the pre-spun stories ready to go out the moment their asshattery has been exposed.

Rove and Gingrich probably played key roles in the republican's descent to an alt-right rabble of anti-democratic buffoons. But don't forget the rise of Fox News (which started broadcasting right in the middle of Clinton's presidency). The presence of a right-wing low information echo-chamber probably played as much of a role as Rove/Gingrich. (Without Fox News, its possible that people like Gingrich would have eventually been marginalized, much like Joseph McCarthy was.

I think we're missing something.

Remember this whole thing started because some heroic messiah figure was going to swoop in and pull back the curtain to reveal the massive deepstate NWO pedophile blood sucking ring of evil Demoncrats and Hollywood Libruls.

They're probably still waiting on that. Just stall until the miracle happens.

I mean... listen I can't fully untangle the mess of how deep down their own rabbit holes some of these people are and how much of it is real and how much of it is a trolling act. If you or anyone else can, knock yourself out.

But assuming at least some of them were "true believers" in the whole Qanon nonsense form their POV nothing has changed, the revolution just hasn't happened yet.

My post was broad-brush stuff : there's a lot of detail, including the Tea Party, which the Koch brothers created when they gave up on the third-party (Libertarian) approach and turned to entryism. That, of course, was supported by Murdoch's Fox News and not opposed by the Republican Party.

Perhaps, but I think Gingrich was to the modern party's taste the way McCarthy wasn't to Eisenhower's party - before inexorable demographic decline started eating its soul away.

Well that's the problem with "edgy." Every edgy person thinks they are the most edgy, so when presented with someone more edgy they either have to double down on their own edgy, try to ride the wave of the new edgy, or pretend they never edgy in the first place. You can't just stay the same edgy.

I'm sure Newt thought nobody would ever be in the Librul's Heads Rent Free more than he was and it blew his goddamn mind when Trump came along and made him look quaint.

It has puzzled me for years how the party with Reagan's 11th Commandment from his campaign for governor - "Thou shalt not speak ill of any fellow Republican.", could devolve into the party of Trump. A man that will insult anyone, any party, but especially his own with a certain viciousness. I thought Reagan was their patron saint? :confused:

Seems obvious the party in general has thrown St. Ronnie overboard, but replaced him with what? I don't even hear him spoken of anymore. It's all Trump, all the time. I'm glad for Reagan to slip into the depths of history, but replaced with the likes of Trump. How insane.

The news keeps calling this incident an insurrection, sedition or treason.

I could not any source that says a single person was charged with insurrection, sedition or treason.

The protesters/rioters were wrong to enter the capitol but the only person killed was un unarmed woman who was shot. It seems that the insurrection, sedition and treason are the narrative being played out in the news, but where the the charges if this is true?

There was another person killed besides the Babbit ****. She was part of the enemy force and the other stupid ass Trumptrash trampled her to death. Too bad it didn't happen to more of them. I understand that two others of the scum died of heart attacks.

There was, sadly one American KIA too, the Capitol Police officer.
