The House is going about this all wrong: it got attacked as an obstacle to the Will of the Executive, and now it is depending on the good will of the Executive to prosecute its cases for it. It just highlights the fact that the Legislature has become completely subservient to the White House.
Instead, the House should do Inherent Contempt Power all the way and have Trump &co try to fight it directly - which they can't.

It will make not one iota of difference to the MAGA True Believers. In their eyes, I'm sure Bannon is standing up to a corrupt and/or false government. Those House Republicans who vote against the contempt charge will be suppressing the lies, not hiding the truth.

Absolutely, of this we are in full agreement for sure.

MAGA's will never change though. Independent voters made a HUGE difference in the 2020 election, as they do in every election. While I don't see the MAGA's changing, I do see the GOP's handling of the entire investigation having an effect on how independents and fence sitters view the GOP, and playing a role in how they're going to vote in future elections.
 
Liz Cheney today on fellow Republicans needing to vote to hold Bannon in comtempt:

“I've heard from a number of my colleagues in the last several days who say they, quote, ‘Just don't want this target on their back.’ They're just trying to keep their heads down, they don't want to anger Kevin McCarthy, the minority leader, who has been especially active in attempting to block the investigation of events of Jan. 6, despite the fact that he clearly called for such a commission.

A week after, I asked each one of you to step back from the brink. I urge you to do what you know is right, to think of the long arc of history. We are told that it bends towards justice. But it does so only because of the actions of men and women in positions of public trust. ... Will you be able to say you did everything possible to ensure Americans got the truth about those events, or did you look away? Did you make partisan excuses and accept the unacceptable?”

I don't agree with her politics, but damn...that woman has more courage and integrity in her little finger than Kevin McCarthy has in his entire body. She must have gotten it from her mother because god knows it wasn't from her father.

Agreed. MAGAs are a lost cause. If they can't see Trump for what he is by now, they never will. It's the Indies that make the difference.

She Knows the Republican party is doomed unless it dumps Trump, she also wants to become the First Female Republican President.
I left the Republican party when they took away might right to free speech, but then maybe I never had that right to begin with, it was just an Illusion.
 
Why isn't GOP Rep. Banks Censured?

After GOP Rep. Jim Banks spoke on the floor and complained about not being allowed to serve on the Jan. 6 committee, Rep. Liz Cheney called Banks out for sending letters to federal agencies and falsely signing them as ranking member of the committee.

To be honest, I think the republican party is in trouble either way.

Tie themselves to Stubby McBonespurs and you drive away moderate voters. Distance themselves, and you lose at least some of the MAGAchud.

They could possibly still win elections either way (given things like voter suppression and the advantage from having voters centered in the more rural states) , but it will be messy.

Not really a big shocking development. But at least we know progress is being made.

And another not-too-shocking development, the house voted in favor of contempt charges for Bannon.

The US House of Representatives has voted to hold ex-Trump adviser Steve Bannon in contempt of Congress, opening him up to a potential prosecution...Thursday's vote largely fell along party lines...Only nine Republicans in the Democratic-controlled chamber voted to hold Mr Bannon in contempt.

I have to admit, given the polarization that seems to exist in the republican party, I am actually surprised that they actually got 9 republicans to vote for the contempt charges. (Cheney and Kinzinger were expected, but they also got Brian Fitzpatrick, Anthony Gonzalez, Jaime Herrera Beutler, John Katko, Nancy Mace, Peter Meijer and Fred Upton)

Expect to see attacks, including accusations of RINO!, directed at all of these from the cowardly Trumpistas..

He denies the Equation E=MC2 has meaning, he picks a losing battle against Newton, Maxwell, Einstein, and Hawking.

Even though absolutely nothing will happen to Bannon more than a strongly-worded letter or two.
