Modi seems to be aiming for top spot on the corruption index.

How the hell will India escape from the BJP?

If it was just good old fashion line your pockets corruption it would be something a nation could live with. But he is also a relgious fantatic...that is where the danger lies.

Modi's being criticised for putting his photo on Covid vaccine certificates.

Narendra Modi: 'Why is the Indian PM's photo on my Covid vaccine certificate?' https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-india-58944475

"Mr Modi is not our first PM and this is not India's first vaccination programme. But the campaign against Covid-19 and the vaccine programme is being projected as a one-man show, a propaganda tool for the prime minister."

"The certificates are being weaponised to win votes"

The BJP has been very keen on having Modi's image prominently featured on any official announcement or document. So much so that a hoarding announcing the inauguration of a national project by the President of India, still featured Modi, with the President no where in sight.

The way his image is splashed almost everywhere is reminiscent of the clichéd giant images of the "revered leader" in banana republics and dictatorships.

Hell, it's exactly the same as in banana republics and dictatorships; All Hail Fearless Leader!

It's been six months since India started going down the dictator road fast. What's the most significant change to the Indian system of government, in this time? If the degree of progress is indeed fast, we should expect to see some sort of forced constitutional change or ersatz judicial ruling, that enables further advances towards the goal of dictatorship. Yes?

So. What are the indicative changes in the Indian system of government?

Many of us working at the grassroots are experiencing the effects heavily. More and more social rights activists are being arrested without charges. There are more caste based and religion based attacks on non-hindu, non upper caste communities. We have fallen way below on the hunger indices and education indices particularly affecting the very vulnerable sections of the community. More and more laws being implemented to disenfranchise "undesirables"...

Well, you fail to see what is happening in the US with the GOP turning Fascist, so I should not expect you to see what is happening in India.

This seems an interesting insight into the state of play in India at the moment:

Like millions of others around the world, Nafeesa Attari was glued to her screen as India played Pakistan in their opening match of the T20 World Cup.

The schoolteacher from the northern Indian city of Udaipur watched as Pakistan won the match by 10 wickets in what was a clinical and emphatic win.

Days later she was arrested and held in a police cell. Her apparent crime: her WhatsApp status celebrating Pakistan's victory.

She is among several Muslims in India who have been arrested or detained for supporting Pakistan in the recent match

Meanwhile the flag humping nationalist patriots have been on twitter threatening Virat Kohli's 8 month old daughter with rape, not because the team lost to Pakistan, but because he spoke against the bigoted abuse of his team mate Mohammed Shami by the usual suspects.

Words fail me.

I am now convinced if the Hindu militants in India keep going the way they are, the chances of a nuclear exchange between Pakistan and India are going to be pretty good.

Nope...won't happen. There will be a lot of saber-rattling, but all out nuclear war is definitely not on the books. Americans tend to have this notion that all nations with a nuclear arsenal, apart from them and probably Israel, are like irresponsible kids with matches.

Both countries have constantly used the other as an excuse to fulfil their fascist ideology among their own denizens. This mutual strategy actually reached quite an overt level during Nawaz Sharief's tenure in Pakistan. Nothing helped Modi to firm his hold in India than Nawaz Sharief in Pakistan...so much so, Modi made at least two diplomatic visits to Pakistan during the period and also an unplanned visit to celebrate Sharief's birthday with him. The maximum by any Prime Minister in India.

Modi's current problem is that Imran Khan is not playing ball, the way Sharief did and that really irks him.

Khan is by no means perfect, but he's seems to be doing a fairly good job so far, in the face of some severe provocation, too.
