A little reading in the anthropological literature would reveal the variety of family types. No society we know of doesn't recognize the parental diad, but our definition of the basic family as mom/dad/offspring is rather the exception. (The Inuit follow that pattern, so it's not just a European thing.) The extended family is more the norm, I think, but of course in various forms, some rigid, some casual.

Here in 'Troit, I've encountered instances of sibling-centered residence patterns, in which brothers and/or sisters live near each after marriage, and raise their families in close cousinhood. If I were a sociologist, I'd like to study those families. Would they exhibit greater and healthier measures of coherence, prosperity, and achievement?

I long ago determined I wasn’t going to be lectured in morality or patriotism by anyone who supports a corrupt, treasonous, filthy degenerate like Donald Trump.
