The Sinking of MS Estonia: Case Re-opened Part II

I wonder why that might be....

(It's not for the reasons you probably imagine)

Well, only a certain class of boat. These are the smaller patrol/escort coastal boats which once had a number instead of a name. For example, U-650. It was found these were not very readable so they received names instead, with the 'U' designating their category. Just a guess.

If there was a fire on the car deck it would have been below the main passenger areas of the ship. Everyone above would have known about it!

Yes, everyone would indeed.

Living in California I can state categorically that people who've survived a fire will talk about it with just about everyone within earshot.

The visor was knocked off by large waves and the ship sank. End of story.

When Estonia became independent, the incumbent Russians were offered three bands of citizenship. they could become Estonian, or remain Russian with Estonian citizenship, or they could choose to retain their Russian citizenship. Estonia couldn't just kick them out of the country as they made up >25% of the population and some had been there for a few generations. So, whilst the KGB were disbanded the old Spetsnaz were still around! Seething with resentment. Loyal to the last. Warning Estonia not to mess with the strong contingent of ethnic Russians in Narva.
Are you now suggesting that the sinking of the Estonia wasn't caused by the KGB/FSB but was the result of an action by Spetsnaz in order to protect ethnic Russians in Narva?

The pennant number is how the ship will be reported, Warships with names still report by their number. a number has less chance of confusion

And the message is for Estonia now, not Sweden. Even though they went out of their way to sink the ship at Swedish midnight.

From Estonia Today:

RS Sentinel reached the location where MS Estonia sank on 22 September and the expedition’s first job is to examine the sea bottom with a multibeam sonar.

“This doesn’t mean underwater diving – the sonar is located under the ship. The plan is to cover the entire area and to map the location of the wreck and objects that surround it,” Kurm noted.

“After that we will conduct the first preparatory examination with an underwater robot, the goal of which is to identify the exact position of the wreck and to find out whether there is anything around it that requires a more detailed examination. If we encounter no problems, our second underwater robot crew will start the night shift to perform photogrammetric scanning of damage spots of the wreck,” Kurm explained.

If the bow visor fell off 1,000m due west of the wreck, presumably, they'll be looking for the atlantic lock there. Unfortunately, the type of mud at the bottom of the Baltic is several metres thick with custard-like sludge and it might be too small for sonar to pick up.

Heh, how do you know I wasn't talking about rugby er, hockey?

It was Very ObviousTM.

But I’m prepared to assume you also don’t know much about hockey in which, like rugby, a yellow card means the player is sent off the field.

It was a false flag operation carried out by MI6 on behalf of Sweden, but was disrupted by an Estonian mini sub attaching an incendiary limpet mine above the waterline, which caused a smokeless fire on the vehicle deck.

This caused the Russian sub that was transporting the Spetnaz team to hit the bow and dislodge the bow visor.

The spetnaz team were able to complete the dislodgement by using explosive charges on the bow visor hinges, before storming the bridge and shooting a tattooed MI6 agent.
