Texas bans abortion.

I agree. There are many non-religious people who are also upset that women are having sex.

I agree. There are many non-religious people who are also upset that some women are having irresponsible sex, and using their wombs as death chambers.

There seems to be a misconception that "having sex" is an excuse to do so in an irresponsible manner. With great power (the ability to produce life) comes great responsibility.

there is a misconception thinking abortion is a bad thing, or something to be avoided.

Any comments on the difficulty in acquiring effective contraception in many of these states? Some of them even allow pharmacists to refuse to sell people the morning-after pill.

Given that many, if not most "Right to Lifers" also promote Abstinence only Sex Education and quite a few oppose birth control to the point of getting Religious exemptions to having to provide it in the health insurance for their employees, your protests that not all are wacko religious nuts that want to return to the days were women were the property of men, being passed from the Father to the husband as little more then a breeder to propagate the line, and who want to punish any woman that dares to be a harlot and use her body sexually outside of that, really does fall rather flat.

But hey, you carry on helping the Christian Nationalists on their merry way to creating the new Republic of Gilead. I'm sure that as Tony the Tiger says, it'll be great!

Your argument is invalid, as related to my stance. I don't have any problem with pre-conception birth control. In fact, I encourage it. I have a problem with abortion as a means of birth control.

You did not respond to my post. Can you provide your insight on that?

These people do not support "limits to abortion". They have clearly stated time and again, it is about "No abortion, in any case," even justifying it by saying stupid things like raped women do not get pregnant. They want a fertilized egg to be recognised as a legally living being. There was one congress critter who even suggested that ectopic prenancies should be allowed to gestate full term even if it would mean the inevitable death of the mother and the child.

Most people here are perfectly happy with a first trimester limit for optional termination, and a few more months for pregnancies resulting from abuse, incest, or even life-threatening medical conditions etc.

So you can pack away the self-righteous concern right there.

Also what is your opinion on the morning after pill?

It's certainly true that the impulse to mind other people's business isn't something that is confined to religious people, anybody can be a busybody prude; but wouldn't you agree that if you're going to saddle someone with such great responsibility, it might also be a good idea to cede to them the autonomy for exercising it?

I am 100% fine with it. I also accept early-term abortion, although I do not think it should be promoted and embraced as a method of "birth control".

Apologies if this idea has already been floated, but my wife’s coworker has suggested that some blue state needs to pass a law that anyone involved in a gun death, from the manufacturer to the gun salesman to the shooter’s buddy who once gave him a ride, can be sued for the death.

I didn't "saddle" anyone with such a responsibility. They were born with it. And, all of us have certain powers within our reach; that doesn't mean that we all use them responsibly, nor that our personal choices that might harm others should be acceptable.

Mutually assured destruction worked against the Soviets. It kept everything from blowing up while the natural rot of the USSR led to their collapse. It can work to keep the GOP in check while they finish imploding.

MAD does quite well describe the traditional US political system, and that was exactly what the Founders wanted: powers holding each other in check.

But MAD breaks down if a) one side doesn't fear retaliation
or b) thinks that the other side has already launched its First Strike.

Listening to Republicans, they very much claim that Liberals have already nuked the country, and all they can do it strike back and rebuild from the ashes.
Knowing Republicans, they think that there is nothing Democrats will actually do that would stop their powergrab.

Good...now what about situations where laws are in place to restrict the sale of morning after pills or provide protection to pharmacists who refuse to sell these pills on the basis of their religious conviction.

Again, there is no promotion of abortion as birth control. What is being protested is that the Texas ruling effectively bans all kinds of abortion or makes it inaccessible. The rest of my post quite clearly indicates the thought process that went into the ruling. PhantomWolf added to it, but in your usual knee jerk manner you chose to ignorer that bit.

It was a false equivalence and I don't believe there is any need to coddle it with this much analysis. It tends to vaslidate this kind of suyllogism.

There is evidence to support that Libs have destroyed the country, certainly. And, abortion law is certainly a part of the equation. Some people want to pretend that it is "fringe" to promote limits on abortion. Voting numbers completely refute this.

Who says? Why should anyone heed any rule, precept, or principle not derived in consensus, not representing majority opinion, unaligned with existing law, ill-founded on poor reasoning, and designed to deprive others of their legitimate rights and freedoms?

The libs?....the libs?....THE LIBS?

Exactly when did the libs in America become so powerful as to manage this. Oh yeah, is this the George Will argument that it is because of the Democrats that the conservatives are stupid?

by what parameter, not feeling, has the country gone downhill from, say, the time of Reagan or Bush Sr.?
