How would you know?

Food banks don't generally supply people directly. They supply other agencies such as food pantries which often limit what, when and to whom they give food. Even providing three-day food packages to families, people don't get to just take stuff. So it is not the case of the people taking free stuff limiting themselves but the pantries and banks limiting what they give to those in need.

You might want to stop thinking of them as food banks, our lord and savior Gaetan has, but more of a place to get your daily rations for your labor. This, of course, assumes our labor pleases him.

All you have to do is distill the water but it costs money to do that, in a world without money it is free

It costs resources, mostly electricity, and creates a ton of waste. And to do it on scale? Yeah, no. Don't worry about the greenhouse gasses it's going to take to convert the sea to potable water? The rise in sea level and what we drain will balance out!

Do you think you are the only one who has thought of this?

Wrong.

Somebody has to build the desalination plants. That is a cost in time, labour and materials.

Somebody has to manufacture the components for the desalination plants. That is a cost in time, labour and materials.

Somebody has to mine the materials for those components. That is a cost in time, labour and materials.

Somebody has to build the distribution network. That is a cost in time, labour and materials.

Somebody has to maintain and run all of it. That is a cost in time, labour and materials.

You really have not thought any of this out, have you.

ETA: Same applies to the vast electrical infrastructure that would be required to run it all.

And what would be the environmental cost?

It cost labor and ressources to make power plants (wind or solar) but it is free of charge, the problem is money not ressources. If you love money you'll have to live without water. The water and swimming pools will just be for richest.

Coal, Nuke, or natural gas also make power.

California has been under drought now for ... years. Why do you think they haven't embraced your drain the sea plan? It's not money.

Stop. Restating. Your. Premise.

Answer questions Gaetan, if you're able to. I grow apples. I have 100 of them. 100 people come to me and take an apple each. What do I tell the 101st person?

The sun does not shine all the time. The wind does not blow all the time.

Are you suggesting that we should depend on the weather for our water supply?

Is that not bringing us back to a hunter-gatherer regime?

Gaetan, are you deliberately ignoring my posts (and thus being rude and disingenuous) or are you just not seeing them?

It is no good because if we ought to survive we have to cut off pollution.

You aren't worried about the pollution that the act of desalination creates? The salts and other left over minerals are pollutants. It's almost like you did no research on this, made your proclamation, and stuck with it. It's almost like a pattern. Assert, get challenged, reassert!

Nukes don't pollute either.

Scarity is a control made by money, the only control in a world of no money is yourself.

Nope, scarcity is just running out of **** or **** that's just really, really hard to get to or to refine. No controls, **** runs out faster as well more resources wasted and more waste products produced satiating the untrammeled desire of people for immediate gratification.

Heck, even in a world of money people just can't control themselves. What happened to that whole embarrassment and shaming by others control thing?

The basis for your entire theory is a book called Uptopia, written by Thomas More.

It's ironic that the Utopia that you based your no money idea upon, had both money and slaves involved.

A no money world is not freedom. It would be a matter of survival.

Without money and civilized society, humans will revert to a hunting and gathering society. People will starve, lack medical care and there is likely to be a lot of violence in the world of no money that you describe.

"Survival is freedom!"

Ah wait, perhaps that was "Victory is life!" All the same when raiding and scavenging in the wastelands.

Again, if it "cost labor and ressources" then it is not "free of charge". That cost of labor and resources is the charge that still must be paid. Money is just a way of accounting for and easing the exchange of that labor and resource charge.

Yes but when you don't have to pay workers and ressources anything can be done as money is not a stop.
