The TAM4 Activities Thread

My brother is coming in. I think he might like Lotus of Siam....

If somebody would collate ALL these events and send them to me, I'd be happy to put them on TAM4.com in an easily printable format.

After you've eaten at Lotus of Siam, you don't have any tastebuds left. ;)
OK, we have lots of Thai restaurants around here so Thai food is no biggy but I want to hang out where all the cool kids are so I'll probably come along. The only problem is that I'm a wimp and I don't do really spicy food. Can you get food at Lotus of Siam that doesn't burn your stomach to a little crisp? My fall back is usually Pad Thai.

Lotus of Siam is pretty lame as far as spicy food goes.

Of course, some people would disagree with me on that.
The waiters wouldn't even let me order a 10/10 on the spicy scale thinking I was some wimpy American. And the next spiciest dish was a 5/10
Or they would get me the 10, but then they'd probably hade make me sign a waiver saying I wouldn't sue them if it was too hot or something like that. I decided not to bother ...

Talk to Chaos. He's a wimp, just like you.

He thinks salt and pepper is "spicy". But, then, he's German - they eat sow's stomach.....

The challenge is on, then. You eat 10/10 at LoS, and Chaos will finish the rest.... :D

It ain't spicy until you feel it tingling in your sinuses and tears are rolling down your face.
Reminds me of some home-made sushi with a bit too much wasabi. Now that was good eatin', and every face at the table was red as a tomato.

Stop evading. :p

Will you take the challenge? :)

I'll sign things if need be. I have made the mistake of claiming that I could eat Thai in various restaurants around Chicago. I got my beers comped once, for surviving. If I got my beers comped this time, I'd have no problem.

Again I ask: What's the deal with the Lotus of Siam? Why are people so hot and bothered about this place? It's just Thai food. Can you not get that in the places y'all are coming from?

Thats pretty crap. Why won't they let you order spicy food? What was the excuse?
I suppose if I'd insisted they'd have gotten me the number 10 dish, but the waiter was going all "Oh, you won't like it, it's too hot, etc ..."
Ask Pirate_Lad, he was sitting right beside me when I was ordering. Maybe he remembers what the excuse was exactly.

It's TAM, Loon. We get all hot and bothered about everything. It's our annual excuse for hot and bothered.

So we drag you out to a strip mall in the east end of nowhere and you wonder why? Because here is what critic Jonathan Gold of Gourmet magazine called no less than the best Thai restaurant in North America.

What makes this place so darn special? First of all, in addition to all the usual beloved Thai favorites, they have a separate menu featuring lesser-known dishes from northern Thailand -- they don't routinely hand this one out (since most of the customers are there for the more pedestrian, if still excellent, $5.99 lunch buffet). Second, the owner drives at least twice a week back to Los Angeles to pick up the freshest herbs and other ingredients needed for his dishes' authenticity. That's dedication that should be rewarded with superlatives.

If only Penn and Teller were capable of conjuring up magic as captivating and improbable as chef Saipin Chutima's cuisine.

That's why. I've eaten there several times, and the food is exquisite. And dirt-cheap, too.

I'm not quite that bad. When I buy salsa at least I get the medium hot and not the mild.

But I don't like the taste of curry apart from its hotness.

If someone has a tape of the Larry King Psychics vs. Skeptics show, it might be kind of fun to do an MST3K take on it.

Either that, or make a drinking game of it. Every time one of the psychics lies, obfuscates, or misdirects, take a drink.

You'll be sloshed in the first ten minutes.
