Biden does have a tendency to digress and to say in 10 words what he could say in 5, but he has always done that. It's just part of his personality and speaking style. In no way is it an indication of senility or dementia. However, Republican pundits, etc use edited and taken out of context videos to make it appear that he has lost the plot:

Why not just admit he's gaffe prone and save yourself the trouble of concocting a convoluted explanation? You can still bring up Trump afterwards if it makes you feel better, but you're not going to have much progress denying Joe's unique stylings.

I don't think anyone here is saying that Biden doesn't make the occasional gaffe. They are saying, "so what?"
They are saying they don't care.
They are saying it pales in comparison to his predecessor who said and did something moronic every day and often many times a day.

They also notice the blatant hypocrisy of posts like yours.

Feel free to present your posts focusing on Trump's gaffes the last 4 years and I will acknowledge that you aren't just being a partisan hypocrite.

I don't care about Biden's gaffes; I only care that Donnie Depends is out. That makes me feel better. Biden is a stop gap, but maybe he'll turn out to be more than that. His vaccine rollout plan was certainly better than ***** -his-pants.

I think so. Many of you seem to live in a reality where Joe Biden is a lucid and articulate speaker.

Has anyone actually said that? That's the same logical fallacy where someone says the Apollo landings weren't faked, and someone responds, "oh, so you think the U.S. government is always 100% honest about everything".

Biden isn't a skilled public speaker. But the issue here is Caroline13's assertion that his speech patterns are so bad that they indicate some sort of mental defect, like dementia (which is especially ironic given that she often types incomprehensible word salad and initially posted this in the wrong sub-forum).

It's not that anyone is saying that Biden is a gifted public speaker, it's that they're saying that not being as articulate as, say, Carl Sagan, doesn't indicate that he is suffering from dementia, especially when one considers the stuttering issue that he has to overcome. If Biden's speech patterns indicate dementia, then Trump's speech patterns must be an indication that his skull was hollowed out with an ice cream scoop.

Minor quibble: I think that the first time one refers to a public official (or other title holder), that title should be used out of respect, then revert to last name usage for brevity thereafter. Secretary Clinton, President Trump, etc. No matter our politics or views, we can and should be adults.

We value speeches far too much. I care far more about what a President does and the policies they support than anything else. JFK probably gave the most inspirational speeches and is remembered as a far better President than he was in reality. His administration accomplished little to nothing. But in fairness to him, he didn't really have Congress behind him.

LBJ was not a great speaker. So so at best. But if LBJ hadn't escalated the Vietnam War, he would be up there with FDR in my book. But he benefitted from what I call the martyrdom mandate. The Democrats absolutely slaughtered the GOP in the 64 elections. And boy did LBJ know how to work Congress.

So I don't care that much about Biden's occasional gaffe in speaking any more than I do Thomas Jefferson's or John Adams or Teddy Roosevelt's.
