House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy on Wednesday issued a blanket threat during a meeting with freshmen members of his caucus that he would strip any Republican member of their committee assignments if they accept an offer from House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to serve on the select committee to investigate the January 6 insurrection, according to two GOP sources with knowledge of the matter.

There will be some GOPers who will disregard McCarthy and serve on the commission (Cheney, Kinzinger, etc.), but I'd bet that if there was no GOP representation as a result of his tantrum, they would later claim any results were tainted because it wasn't a "bipartisan" investigation. Hell, they can probably still play that game- they'll block participation by anyone but the RINOs they will then blame for it being "one-sided," since they seem to have bought completely into Trump's "you're either with me or you're against me" principle of party organization.

This ^. Cheney has already joined the committee. I don't agree her politics but I have to admire the woman's courage and integrity. She's got more cajones than all the other GOP Reps combined with the exception of Adam Kinzinger.

Fund-raisers on the Christian far-right-sympathetic fundraising site GiveSendGo provide a snapshot of the stories arrestees tell about themselves. Mark Sahady and Sue Ianni, both founding members of the homophobic hate group Super Happy Fun America and organizers of the Boston “Straight Pride Parade” (motto: “It’s great to be straight”) have raised more than $9,000 on the site to contest federal charges of disorderly conduct and trespassing for their role in the riot. The pair arranged for 11 buses to transport fellow far-righters to D.C. “Mark Sahady and Sue Ianni are patriotic Americans who are facing a legal battle due to peacefully attending the rally in Washington, DC on January 6th,” the pair wrote on GiveSendGo. “Due to their history of conservative activism they have been defamed by the media and harassed by local far-left agitators. As a result of what appears to be a political prosecution they are now burdened with large legal expenses.” Along with their donation, a user calling themselves “Rightful Freedom” wrote: “Thank you for fighting for our rights and freedom.” Last month, “Nancy D” went further, offering $100 and the message: “God bless you! You are an inspiration to all of us of true patriotism.”

This is probably the first time in recent memory that a criminal has been made into a martyr and/or used to make money. Certainly nobody on the left would engage in such a thing.

The terrorist nuts who attacked the Capitol on 1/6 are still a danger but some GOP in Congress and elsewhere want us to believe they were just 'patriots peacefully protesting' and not insurrectionists.

Following his arrest in January, Robertson was fired along with K9 unit officer Jacob Fracker, 29. Robertson told WSET-TV in a January 12 report that neither he nor Fracker participated in violence or property damage on Jan. 6th.
“CNN and the Left are just mad because we actually attacked the government who is the problem and not some random small business . . . [t]he right IN ONE DAY took the ********* U.S. Capitol,” he is quoted as saying in social media posts, according to the FBI. “Keep poking us.”

Robertson also allegedly purchased rifles and armor piercing ammunition from Gunbroker.com. All told, he allegedly had 34 guns waiting for him at a gun store. From the motion:
The FFL owner stated that Robertson currently has 34 firearms waiting for him at the FFL for pickup. Robertson had told the FFL owner that he cannot have the guns because of his current bond conditions. The FFL owner stated that Robertson had been in his store to handle several of these guns as recently as one week ago.

Sarcasm noted. I'm assuming you're referring to George Floyd. Oranges and apples. Babbitt was killed while in the act of attempting to break into the Capitol as an insurrectionist. Floyd was murdered by an overzealous cop after submitting to him and no longer resisting. If you can't see the difference, then you are either being willfully blind or (Rule 0).

There are many other examples, even ignoring George Floyd (for obvious reasons). My point is, there is plenty of idiocy at both ends of the spectrum, and also plenty of hypocrisy.

I'll agree with your last sentence but it's not relevant to my post above.

Please give me an example of the 'left' making a martyr out of someone trying to stop the legitimate and democratic election of a president. I'll be waiting.

Are we going to tally every side's total martyrdom points at the end? Can you not just accept that there is plenty of hypocrisy and idiocy on both ends of the spectrum?

Trying to characterize one side as being more virtuous (or intelligent) than the other is just comical. That applies to this situation just as much as any other.

No, it's not comical at all. When was the last time you saw the "left" trying to subvert an election and claim it was "stolen" due to voter fraud? Or trying to get a defeated candidate back into office because s/he's the "real" winner? Or calling an obviously violent attack where people died a "peaceful protest"? Give me a break. This is just more justification for the right's having gone full nuts extreme by attempting the "but the Left does it, too" crap.
