Merged Australian Politics - The Morrison Period

Further to the above it seems most unusual for politicians to change their minds. Part of the reason for this maybe is that voters admire a politician for "sticking to his guns, even if they are pointed in the wrong direction". Someone more famous than I made this comment - can't remember who now.

Astra Zeneca has now been dumped as a covid vaccine. It was reported that Australia was offered 40 million doses of Pfizer last year but knocked it back.

Morrison put his house on AZ and lost big time. Of all his momentous blunders, this is the biggest.

As I have said repeatedly he deserves to lose the next election. And he just may, even to Albo.

Thanks. Interesting that this is what the SMH decided to highlight out of that report, since the Horizons document states "Given the size of the Australian population over 60, it is assumed that demand for AstraZeneca doses will reduce in Horizon 2 and be met by Horizon 3. However, AZ doses will be available if demand continues through Horizon 2 and 3."

Rather than it being "dumped", its usefulness given the current guidelines will be coming to a natural end.

Not disputing that the Government well and truly messed this up - especially by refusing the Pfizer. Just clarifying the "dumped" suggestion.

Fair enough. Yes, the main issue is Morrison backing the wrong horse.

In a situation like this, you place bets on all the horses.

I disagree.

Shutting Covid out gave both countries time to go with the best strategy rather than having a buck each way on all the vaccines.

Given the same time frame and scientific expertise, NZ adopted a 100% Pfizer strategy.

It's all the negative hype about the blood clotting events. One or two of them out of millions of doses, and suddenly "I would rather not have it than risk that!" The odds are lower than winning the $20 million lottery, for which they will pay good money in the hope they DO win.
