Our nation was founded on political violence and our founders viewed it as a feature not a bug. That is why we should celebrate these political shootings as being emblematic of American freedom.

I'm really baffled by anyone, especially liberals, who have witnessed the totally hands-off approach US police take to right wing violence and think unilateral disarming is a good approach to stability in this country.

Every fascist, white nationalist, neo-confederate, Christian dominionist, Qanon crank, and so on is armed to the teeth and the cops will not lift a finger when they're kicking your teeth in or gunning you down in public. Probably should consider hitting the range.

We get it. Black on black crime is a huge thing. Everyoe knows that. All of this "Do the Proud Boys have a contingent in Maury, North Carolina?" is just a thread hijack.


And I think it's nice to do a service to call attention to it, sort of. It is conceivable that there are people who actually think that gun violence in America mostly consists of white males on rampages. They would have to be idiots to think that, but there are idiots in the world, and maybe some of them are here.

So, now that you've called attention to black on black crime, and everyone understands it, say something useful for a change. Say something that isn't some boring repetition of the same old ****.

Do you think there are any solutions?

Personally, I think making it much, much, harder to get a permit to carry a weapon would put a little dent in the situation, and while it would not solve the problem, it's better to light a candle than to curse the darkness, so that's one thing I would do.

What would you do?

It could have a fairly large impact.

Illegal guns don't last very long as they are incriminating. So criminals rely on a steady stream of new illegal guns that were initially legal.

I have to say, I'm pretty impressed with the commitment to the "but chicago" bit being employed here. Nobody can say it's not a dedicated effort, though I'm not sure it's having much effect beyond spamming this thread in between more notable spree shootings.

To my way of thinking, those 1418 people shot in Chicago provide a far, far, better reason for gun control than the occasional spree shooter that takes out 6, or 8, or 50 people.

(The record is still right about 50 isn't it? Las Vegas concert? It's so hard to keep track.)

ETA: I checked. 60 dead, 411 wounded. 411? That's a lot of wounded. I think that only counts gunshot wounds. Another 867 injuries from tramples and such. But Anders Brevik got 69. Not nearly as many total casualties.

With all the surveillance technology in the world today, it's hard to believe murders like this go unsolved, especially the drive-bys. I can see how a person on foot might escape detection, but cars are big, and there are cameras pointing at them, a lot.

We know that potential victims having guns stops them from becoming victims and can even turn them into heroes who can take down the shooter. If everyone in these neighborhoods was armed, residents could defend themselves properly.

I wonder if anyone has thought about trying such a brilliant idea with illicit drugs, explosives, child pornography, etc.? I think I shall write my elected representatives and have them ban such things, think of all the problems that will be solved.

In fact, I'm going to ask them to ban alcohol as well. Just imagine all the drunk driving fatalities, violence and abuse, injuries that would no longer happen if we just banned alcohol.

That's ridiculous. If you make shooting at people illegal, that means that people can't shoot their attackers in self defense like they're supposed to, and law abiding heroes can't shoot down criminals and save lives.

It makes far more sense to distribute guns or, since that's kind of commie-talk, at least make sure everyone is legally required to have one and carry it at all times in case they need to defend themselves or find a chance to act as a hero.
