Who at this moment has more power in the Republican party than former president trump? How did the 'more powerful' get their fingers burned? trump got 63 million votes in the 2016 election. In 2020, his total was 74 million. What does that tell us?

McConnell, Graham, Cruz, et al, did all in their power to prevent trump from winning the Republican Party's nomination in 2016. They made it clear they abhorred him and considered him totally unfit to be president. Yet they failed to stop him. None of the traditional Republican leaders have the same rank-and-file support as does trump. Not even close.

It needs to be recognized. The Republican leadership tried to stop trump and they failed. Five years later it's undoubtedly gotten harder to stop him not easier.

Yeah, the damage to his brand is huge to Trump. It's not just financial, though he did sell his name for quite a while through licencing -- it's a blow to his ego.

It may not matter in the short term for that particular property, but it could have secondary effects...

If units in Trump towers fall, he will have trouble with any new construction projects (why construct a new trump property if you think you may have trouble selling the units initially at a high price), as well as potential licensing of the name to non-trump owned properties.

Long term, if units in his building are seen as "cheap", they may not be able to charge higher condo fees.

Problem is, rather than those powerful people taking steps to reduce Trump's influence, they are doing everything they can to double down and give him even more power.

They could have thrown trump under a buss with a bipartisan commission looking into the Jan 6 terrorist activities. But they did not. They could have voted to impeach trump a second time, but they did not. They could work to restrict the impact of trump allies like Greene, but they did not Rather than distance themselves from trump, republicans are travelling to Mar a Lago.

Relax. You can see where cullenz is coming from -- literally. Inhabitants of small countries like to disparage big countries, especially the US. Injured vanity always takes that form.

And NZ is also an archipelago, and can hug itself close in a great blue emptiness, as if it's inhabitants had invented insularity. They might as well have; they haven't invented much of anything else.

And I wouldn't have it any other way. If insignificance will preserve that last great wonderful, unearthly place, then it's a small price to pay for beauty.

Trump says “very interesting” to a radio host's suggestion that he run for a House seat in 2022 in a bid to become Speaker and consequently launch an impeachment investigation against President Joe Biden.

While I’m sure that Pres. Rufus T. Grifter gets a chubby at the thought of destroying Biden, there is no **** way he would actually run. He might announce a candidacy. He might collect donations. He might even go on the campaign trail with hopes of getting national airtime. But he is not going to run.

ETA:
I suppose there is one way Trump could run for Congress. If he knew he would lose, he might do it so he could spend the following six months saying, “I was cheated. Send all your money and attention to me immediately.”

A sensible person would keep their head down, maybe engage in some small scale fundraising grift to make ends meet, but this is Trump.

Nope. He'll SAY he's going to run just to make money and keep his stranglehold on the GOP (the one Cullennz doesn't think he has). But his ego could not take another defeat even if he doesn't think he was defeated legitimately. Underneath all that narcissistic bravado is a scared little boy who would be destroyed by another loss.

Even if he were to run, and win, and become the Speaker, could you imagine this guy, who spent the majority of his days as "president" in "executive time" watching TV, actually doing any of the work needed to start, let alone run, an actual committee to do anything?

The entire process would be nothing more than Trump and the 5 other most deranged Republicans showing up on TV and whining about every crazy CT under the sun.

It'd be The Caine Mutiny on Steroids.
 
Trump doesn't have a clue how bills are passed other than he signed a bill into law as POTUS. Can you imagine him on any committee? He'd demand to run everything because he'd know more about whatever the subject was than anyone else. Not that he'd be interested because, as Horatius rightly pointed out, he'd have no interest in actual legislative business. He'd be like MTGreene, only worse: running around doing nothing but spouting off craziness to gain attention and he'd have his posse right behind him backing him up. Not that he'd EVER run for Congress after being POTUS. He would see that as a demotion and beneath him. His ego could not stand it.
 
Trump's main function for the GOP at this point is as a shield against his violent followers: Republicans who swear fealty won't get harassed and assaulted by their own voters.
Beyond that, Republicans don't really expect anything and shouldn't either.
