f the Dems are smart, they can just about ensure a wipeout of the GOP in 2022. While voting restrictions are happening, there are plenty of ways of working around them. It may be axiomatic the ruling party goes down in the midterms, but not a 100% rule that it must happen.

IF the Dems are smart...
How?
Where to start!

Apart from stuff like having a nationally coordinated campaign starting now, and having a nationally coordinated and even more concentrated get-out-the-vote effort like worked in Georgia last year, there is also the judo method of using the GOP's self-destruct mode against them.

For example, painting T**** as a massive loser and aligning the MAGA-ite GOP with him. Acknowledging the very large lobby of GOP and former GOP members who have now publicly repudiated this newfound GOP T**** worship entirely, in order to encourage a big split in the GOP support. And so on. Working MUCH smarter, not just more of the same.

Over 100 prominent Republicans are threatening to split from the GOP amidst its continued support of former president Donald Trump and the ouster of his vocal critic, Wyoming representative Liz Cheney, as divisions in the party hit breaking point.

Is it you or the wine I'm drinking?

It's the wine he's drinking!

Seriously though did you get a new device, dudalb, because the typos have been around for a good 6 months or longer. Like one day they suddenly appeared. I mean no big deal but I've been curious.

Or maybe something physical (which is why I never asked before). Like with my tendinitis I sometimes don't fix words if I'm starting to feel discomfort, and I type worse to try to avoid unneeded strain reaching for keys.

From Norman Alexander's link:

The anti-Trump members are preparing to release a letter this week, hitting out at the former president’s grip on the GOP and threatening to form a third party unless certain demands are met, The New York Times and Reuters report.

They need to quit threatening and just freakin' DO IT. "Preparing to release a letter" - ooh, scary! If losing the Senate wasn't enough to get the mainstream GOP's attention, why would this letter have any effect? I've never heard of most of the signers (which doesn't mean much).

Re: the highlighted. Besides being a cliche, I doubt if it's even true. We'll know when we're at a breaking point when something breaks.

FTFY. It's hard to justify actually using "govern" there, I think.

That's a fair point. It's no accident that the Christian fundies that Goldwater warned against have indeed gravitated more toward his party, along with their belief that a cultural majority entitles them to a political hegemony which is more "rule" than "govern." They don't even necessarily need to be fundie Christian to have adopted the mindset.

That actually makes me a little bit more interesting in visiting Martha's Vineyard, honestly. Not his lying blather, of course, but that I think that an off shore wind farm would make an ocean view much more interesting.

As a boater who sailed one year in the area of the Vineyard, I have to strongly disagree. Wind turbines do not improve the scenery of the ocean. The views from the Vineyard will not be as good.

I don't know the exact location of the turbines, but they may cause an issue with good sailing or fishing areas as well.

I understand those opposed to turbines in a prime vacation area. It will be a loss to the area. But if we use that as an excuse not to build the turbines off Vineyard, we're also falling into the usual trap that only those who live in undesirable locations end up inconvenienced by necessary but unsightly infrastructure. I'm somewhat on the fence of the wisdom of placing the turbines in a beautiful area, but lean towards doing so. Wind energy is a net boon and I'm not comfortable with arguments that place then only where the wealthy don't share in the inconvenience.

Fixed the typo. I'm not sure how much it affects the sailing or the view from ashore. It's far more important to create electricity for 400,000 homes than change the view of the ocean for millionaires and billionaires.

US Republicans have appointed New York Congresswoman Elise Stefanik, a Trump loyalist, to the third-ranking post in the House of Representatives.

It follows an earlier vote to oust the incumbent chairwoman, Liz Cheney, from the role over her criticism of former President Donald Trump.

The final tally of Friday's secret ballot was 134 for Ms Stefanik to 46 for her opponent, Congressman Chip Roy.

Ms Stefanik's win was expected, as she had the backing of top Republicans.

The move is seen as a sign Mr Trump's grip on the party is as strong as ever six months after he lost the election.

Mr Trump issued a statement congratulating Ms Stefanik on her "overwhelming victory" and saying the "Make America Great Again movement is strong".

Republican House Leader Kevin McCarthy congratulated Ms Stefanik and Mr Roy, saying: "We had a healthy debate and a good election. We've got a lot of work to do in this leadership team, in this conference."

Congressman Steve Scalise, the second-highest ranking House Republican, also praised Ms Stefanik, adding that the party "is incredibly unified".

Of COURSE it is, Steve! Just keep telling yourself and Toupee Fiasco that, and it's bound to come true.

Biden's thread hardly moves. It's bizarre that Trump's thread post Presidency still outpaces Biden's by a long shot.

Yup. Trump is a lunatic.

NO, stop.

The voter fraud thing. The debate ragings. The awful conventions. the shrieks of anger on Twitter threating a nuclear ******* war. The crowd size thing.

Biden? He just killed that stupid statue garden idea today. No grand gesture, no need for cameras. Just nixed it quietly.

In the spirit of “never attribute to malice that which can be sufficiently explained by stupidity,” in my opinion that was a simple slip-up on the part of the web site maintainers. It was likely part of a test dataset intended only for internal use and ended up visible to the public by accident.
