"The Fraudulent Presidential Election of 2020 will be, from this day forth, known as THE BIG LIE!"

That's a whole new level of irony. No shame at all.

It's kind of funny reading some of the comments where his supporters are getting angry that he did nothing about this fraudulent election and let it be stolen from him. The more he hypes up this terrible fraud, the more his supporters are getting ticked that he was seemingly powerless to stop it.

I was wondering how he got back on Twitter until I realized I was looking at an alternate social media site I'd never heard of until now -- Gab.

I think CNN is the originator of the "Big Lie" meme, meaning of course Trump's insistence that he won the election. So now Trump is trying to usurp that and turn it to his own desire. Once it starts being used on Fox News (et al), we'll know it's been at least partially successful.

I believe that was the site that was involved in negotiations with Trump... he gets a percentage of the company if he joins up. (The site could be described as 'Twitter for neo-Nazis', so Trump would feel right at home there.) They were hacked shortly after the Capitol Terrorist action.

It should be noted that Donald Trump himself is not a user of Gab; it looks like they were just repeating statements he made elsewhere.

From: Wikipedia
In early February 2021, multiple media outlets falsely reported that former-President Trump had joined Gab under the handle @realdonaldtrump....Torba responded to the false reports in a blog post, saying that "@realdonaldtrump is and always has been a mirror archive of POTUS' tweets and statements that we've run for years.

The 2020 presidential election was not stolen. Anyone who claims it was is spreading THE BIG LIE, turning their back on the rule of law, and poisoning our democratic system.

I don't think they even need to do that much. ISTM that just by pretending they have enough grounds to justify having the audit at all, they've already accomplished their goal, which isn't to clarify anything, but to muddy the waters enough so they can pretend there may be a problem; they don't need to show it meaningfully exists in order to come up with "solutions" that, coincidentally of course, favor their party.

As the GOP has increasingly become the party that is home to CTists/creationists, the resemblance in methodology is also no coincidence. CTists don't really care who shot John, and creationists don't really care how the universe came to be as we see it today. The whole idea is to negate the idea of evidence as a concept by which to reach reasonable conclusions, and to substitute doubt so any conclusion can be justified in all the smoke they've blown.

Good for her. I have to respect her for that. At least she's standing up to Trump and unlike that spineless McCarthy.

This claim that the election was stolen from him is something he is going to keep repeating until the day he dies. He will never, ever get over losing. His niece, Mary Trump has said "He’s the only person I’ve ever met who can gaslight himself, I don’t think he’s ever accepted the truth of the loss. I don't think he’s psychologically or emotionally capable of that.". In effect, Trump has gaslit himself to the point where he believes his own lies.

Perhaps at the beginning of the aftermath of the election loss, he may have genuinely believed he was robbed, perhaps he was too stupid to realise he really lost, but once he realised the truth, being the narcissist that he is, the only way to protect himself from the collapse of his psyche was to invent the lie that the election was stolen from him, and this became The Big Lie - he then repeated it enough that now he does believe it - he has rammed this false belief so far into his own psyche that this is literally the only thing he can bring himself to say when he gets in front of a microphone, evidence every time he gets on OAN or Newsmax, of speaks at a wedding or on the porch at Mar-a-Largo.

Former US presidents usually go on speaking tours - they have huge numbers of offers for speaking engagements such as corporate events, college or university graduations, military passing out parades and international meetings and summits. These event organizers will pay huge amounts up in the region of 100K+ to make relatively short speeches. Here, we have Trump going to weddings or standing on the back porch of his hotel, ranting to a few dozen mostly disinterested people.... for no money!

Exactly. This is how he makes everything work in his mind; he gaslights himself with repeating it over and over and surrounding himself with those that support the lie to the point where it becomes his reality. Cohen says the same thing in his book. Trump comes to believe his own lies because no one ever tells him otherwise.

I saw another DJT masterpiece wile looking around there:
Please explain to the Democrats and RINOs that the reason Texas-06 completely shut out Democrats in Saturday’s Jungle Primary is because of my Endorsement of Susan Wright, who surged last week after receiving it.

That's certain to get him nominated for Mr. Humility for 2021.

Did he mean "gubernatorial" here??

ETA: Nope, it appears to be the common name for the type of run-off election process to replace a sitting member who is no longer able to do the job (in this case, died of COVID).

To poke at this question to clarify things a little... No. Absentee ballots can and frequently are mailed back from one's legal residence, but where they're mailed from has nothing to do with their validity. In most cases that I know of, they can also be delivered to the specified location by hand, as well. I did that last election, incidentally.

<snip>

Another example. Here in NC (well, Durham County, at least) absentee ballots can also be returned to the polling places.

Actually, Cohen was referring to his business (pre-presidency) days when everyone who worked for him was deathly afraid to tell him anything that didn't support what he wanted to hear knowing his reaction to being contradicted about anything. But your point is still valid.

My understanding is that an absentee ballot occurs when an eligible voter has submitted a complying legal ballot for the electorate s/he lives in, but from a location not in that electorate, and/or within a valid period before the actual day of election. This should include and not be limited to: military personnel serving overseas, US tourists in a foreign country or on vacation elsewhere in the USA, and those unable to attend a polling station on the day (e.g. are very sick or are having a major surgical operation, frail residents of nursing homes, unable to travel to a polling station, etc.)

I believe these types of ballots are subject to extra scrutiny and conditions to ensure they are truly valid and have been secured as private while in transit. Once they arrive and are validated by the counting staff, they should go into the general mix of ballots to be tallied just like every other legal ballot. They are, truly, fully legal ballots.

Absentee ballots are nothing new to modern voting systems. All other countries besides the USA which use similar voting systems have some provision for absentee ballots. So why the GOP suddenly think they are a problem now is the question. And it is very clear that they didn't like the result and now just want to sulk bigly.

Close. Fixed it for you.
