Bill and Melinda Gates have decided to divorce.
Bill Gates and wife Melinda Gates are ending their marriage after 27 years and raising three kids together. The billionaire software developer announced the end of their long union in a statement on Twitter declaring their intent to continue working on The Gates Foundation, their joint nonprofit, together, but stating that they would no longer be continuing their marriage.

She found a rich boy friend perhaps? :D

Or is Bill coming out?

Will she make the same mistake as Mackenzie Bezos and actually give away the money she promised to give away?

Why would that be a mistake? M. Bezos apparently is giving away quite a bit of money, exactly as she promised.

Melinda was a Microsoft millionaire before they ever dated.

And given they were married for 27 years and seemed to have had a lot in common from the beginning, I think your comment is odd.

One commentator said a lot when she observed "The people we divorce are not the same people we married."

Melinda has decided to upgrade her O/S to a more recent version. Maybe Bill's floppy disk just isn't cutting it anymore?

The first floppy disks were 8" then shrunk eventually to the so called 3 1/2 inch floppy disk. Misnamed since those were hardly floppy.

Now Kingston sells 2 terrabyte thumb drives. That's about 6 orders of magnitude more storage than an original 10" floppy. Small but very hard.

I have a paper tape with Microsoft's Advanced Basic I paid about $200 for. That was pre Melinda. When you read it through the OP-80 paper tape reader successfully, a fraught and slow process, that was a happy ending.

Wait what?

We can now buy 2TB thumb drives? Holy crap. It seems like just yesterday I bought a 2TB portable harddrive for doing simple backups. And now I can get that amount of storage space on a simple little flash drive?

Wow.

Tax advantage too? Two singles filing separately can save a couple thousand per year. :D

I find this a bit sad as they were always one of my examples of a rich person seeming to have married for love (as opposed to, now I'm rich I'll marry someone half my age and way out of my league looks wise) and having a happy marriage as a result.

Doesn't anyone stay married anymore? Back a few years when I used to car share to work, I remember us remarking how statistically odd we were that of the three of us, all were happily married (each for 30+ years).

As expected, there is various gossip surrounding their divorce.

So, to add fuel to the fire, there is this:

From: The Guardian
Melinda French Gates had concerns about her husband’s dealings with the convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein when she consulted lawyers to explore the option of divorcing the Microsoft billionaire Bill Gates, according to reports....Melinda is said to have expressed unease at Bill’s relationship with Epstein since at least 2013. Her meeting with divorce lawyers in October 2019 is said to have taken place at roughly the same time as a New York Times article detailed Bill’s meetings with Epstein, which included an overnight stay at Epstein’s New York mansion.

Totally plausible, but totally connect-the-dots fueled by anonymous sources. Neither the WSJ article nor the Daily Beast article behind the Guardian article name any names.
