More conflicts of interest in the Biden administration as they move to waste trillions of dollars of your money on Green New Deal “investments.”

May as well treat that as being as trustworthy as the accusations that Kamala Harris is profiting off the southern border problems by having her book included in welcome packets.

Short summation of that story? Someone in the community donated one of Kamala Harris' books, a New York Post authority figure caught wind of it and pressured a reporter to concoct a false story (which led to the reporter resigning right after), which Republican propagandists immediately jumped on hard to try to imply that Kamala Harris is corruptly profiting.

Not quite as utterly inane as Dandeliongate, but I find myself wondering about why, exactly, we have to put up with such incredible dishonesty being spewed by those who clearly are not acting in good faith.

I get that a pipeline and a windmill have quite different designs and features.

But site leveling is site leveling. I also expect fastening sections of riser and sections of pipe have a significant degree of overlap, but I concede the specific hazards and complications may differ.

This is one of those priority changes that doesn't require everyone to become computer programmers.

Then there's always the story that Joe is going to limit us to 4 lbs. of meat per year!

Given the Democrats presumably have a finite amount of political capital...
Invalid concept; although doing unpopular stuff might indeed decrease your ability to do more stuff later, doing popular stuff increases it.

As opposed to Trump's rants?
Criticism/complaint about Biden ≠ praise of Trump or any other sort of comparison with Trump

By "political capital" I refer to the ability to squeeze enough votes out of the opposition to bolster your majority. Presumably favors are called in, commitments made for the future, and so forth. Why blow it on menthol in cigarettes when it's needed for health care reform?

Unfortunately, this is simply not true of Republican politicians. They use criticism of Biden as a means to imply how much better they think their guy was.

I might be mistaken, but I'm pretty sure that once I pay my taxes, it isn't my money anymore. If I buy something at the store, I don't get to complain about them spending "my money" on purchasing inventory that I don't like.

They have to do something. It's unreasonable to expect India not to protect its citizens.

It's pretty much a global problem if these other countries can't vaccinate their populations. The longer covid can run rampant through human populations, the more we risk developing new strains that may be more virulent or otherwise make existing vaccines ineffective.

It's in the interest of the US to ensure that other countries can vaccinate their populations as quickly as possible, even if that means IP holders in big pharma don't make as much money as they might hope to.

Yeah but I'm also pretty sure I make a personal choice to buy things at the store.

Yes, it was a poor analogy. The point was that taxes are no longer "my money" once they're paid. It's like people who say they don't want their taxes used to support the military, as if specific dollars can be transferred from their bank account to a specific portion of the budget.

You'd have a better point if you were paying taxes to a King, but in a democracy, there's an expectation that the government won't use tax money on things most of the people really don't want.

I mean, would you be okay with government officials using tax dollars for personal holidays? I suspect not.

Of course, we express our opinions on how to use tax money via voting, and a majority voted in favor of Biden, who openly supported the Green New Deal, so that question should be settled for the moment.

I want to be careful here, lest I accidently speak some magical incantation which will inadvertently summon the internet-pseudo-libertarians and their seagulling cries of "Taxation is Theft" but I think this whole line of questioning is, I think a valid reason why you should be try to spend taxes on things which all "all or nothing" on a societal level.

I think there is a flaw in the logic here: the government OUGHT to spend money on stuff I don't want to spend money on, because if the people would be willing to spend money themselves it would not be necessary for the Government to do it.

There's certain things that you can only do on a societal scale though and it stops being a matter of pure money and resources.

Even if I was rich enough to afford my own stealth bombers and Nimitz Class Aircraft Carriers and 101st Airborne I don't have the time to effectively manage them.

Yeah, not to get all "internet-pseudo-libertarian" on the issue, but, the one area where it's clear that governments have a legitimate interest in doing things are those things which are either impossible, or very hard to do as individuals.

And they need at least some money to do that.

We could argue about what those things are, and then argue about what level of government should be responsible for it, but it's clear that there are a lot of things most people agree should be done by the government.
