Gabby Giffords.

Concealed carrier goes towards the danger, encounters armed person. This person had taken the shooter's gun. By the barest of luck they didn't kill each other.

When law enforcement shows up, how do they tell which firearm-wielding persons are friendly?

Why are Mass Shootings skyrocketing?
This is hte most important question, and IMHO is being ignored because there is no political hay to be made by ezploring it.

THanks for reminding me why, depsite my disgust for what conservatism has become, I am not jumping on to the "Progresive" band wagonThey are just a little to eager to sacrifice individual rights in pursuit of some utopia.
 
Oh as to that well because we're in a post-fact world where conspiracy theories are not out in the open.

Dumb people who believe in absurdities are dangerous. There's no mystery.

What rights are being sacrificed? Only lives are being sacrificed.
 
Apparently my cousin was standing in between two people who were hit. She managed to duck in time or the gunman just missed. Incredible.

My other cousin's daughter and her friend managed to get into a vehicle before the shooting began. Just moments before they were standing near the windowless entrance, the only permitted way in or out of the building.

Inside is a very cramped locker room where four people were killed before the shooter committed suicide. Beyond that are two security gates with metal detectors. Though I haven't worked there in a few years I've been told that one of the turnstiles is still defective! If the assailant wanted he could have scanned his badge (if he was an employee) and walked through the gate unimpeded.

Wow. I'm glad your cousins are OK. Awful situation regardless, but great your family is alive.
 
CNN: ...the suspect was known to federal and local authorities, and a relative reached out to authorities warning about that person's potential for violence, according to three law enforcement sources briefed on the matter.
 
So we seem to be having a string of mass shootings that aren't part of an organized terrorist operation and don't involve the commission of some other crime in the USA. Is this merely coincidental, or is there truth to the "mass shooting contagion" theory, which is a theory that claims that extensive news coverage of mass shootings inspires others to engage in mass shootings?

I tend to lean towards this hypothesis.

Also it's interesting to read the possible links between murder-suicide and regular suicide. Do suicidal thoughts morph into homicidal thoughts as well in some people? Who knows.

What a horrific scenario.

Suppose this person had been obviously problematic in a way that not only his mother (apparently) had noticed the threat he presented, but his co-workers as well. Imagine the relief they might've felt when he was fired, or quit, or otherwise separated from the company last year, thinking that the danger to themselves was finally over. It's a chilling thought.
